Signal-desktop: Contact-colors are not synced correctly

Bug description

It seems like the Desktop-client didn't sync all the contact-colors correctly. Most characters are correct, however I found two mistakes:

  1. In Android one contact has the _petrol-green_, on desktop this one is _lila_.
  2. Same goes with _pink_, which turns to _red_ on the Desktop for one contact.

However, another contact that is pink on android is pink on the desktop as well.
I don't think I changed those colors since my initial sync with the desktop client.

My current desktop installation is still the same as when I installed it via the chrome store some days after you guys published the beta. So my initial sync has been some time ago.

Platform info

Operating System: OSX El Capitan
Browser: Chrome 49.0.2623.110 (64-bit)
Signal version: Android: 3.15.2, Desktop: 0.5.2

Probably you would need a log direct after starting the desktop-client the first time, to catch the contact sync right?
Since this is no issue that occurs after certain steps, but is "persistent", a log probably doesn't make sense?
(Btw, off-topic: How (often) are contact changes synced after the initial sync?)

Could you check the names of the contacts with different colors? The colors are derived from the names and not from the contacts phone number (something that should be changed imho).

Ah, interesting :+1:

However the names of the two contacts are the same on android and desktop.

I'm having the same problem. All of my contacts are set to the same blue color in the Android app, but on the desktop none of the colors are the same. I get grey, pink.

I have Signal 3.15.2 on Android. And Signal 0.7.0 on the desktop (Debian Linux).

The problem seems to have gotten worse with 0.7.0. With the older app, one of the contacts had the correct blue color. Now none do.

I tried uninstalling the Signal app and reinstalling it, then resyncing it to my phone. Same results. In fact, now the colors on the contacts are even more messed up.

In addition, the app non-sensically added my own phone number as a contact and I can't remove it.

I am seeing this problem on both a Debian system and in Arch Linux.

The Android app also allows you to change a contact's color, but these changes don't appear to sync with the desktop app. I can't find a way to change it manually in the desktop app either.

@scotthammack yes, but that's not related to this issue, since I didn't change the contact colors after I synced with the Desktop Client.

I just sent a message to the wrong person since I was hurried, looked at the color and didn't check the name :(

I'd prefer not to have any colors in the desktop client rather than confusing ones. OTOH, if things are to be synced, perhaps sync contact pictures as well?

Or perhaps let the desktop client say "Send a message to $name" instead of just "Send a message" in the text field – the recipient name is too far away from the text field when the window is maximised.

Is this still a problem?

Contact colours seem synced here =D

I can't say whether or when it was resolved.

When playing around now, I can't reproduce it anymore. So looks like this is resolved when neither @unhammer nor me experience it.
