Notepad3: Do not want to create a new file in the current window, settings do not work

Created on 23 Dec 2019  ·  9Comments  ·  Source: rizonesoft/Notepad3

In the mode of not a single window, click new file. I hope it can create new files in a new window instead of in the current window. This will affect the user experience

hello @hpwamr ,
I am modifyiing a file, this time,i want to quickly open a new blank window. When i click on the "Toolbar"in the "New" button,he will be prompted to my preservation ,and to shut down now i modified files ,reuse the current window .but i want to click on the new button or press Ctrl+N,can open a New blank window and this not to close my modified files.

  • Alt+N : Open new window with current file (on disk).
  • Alt+Shift+N : Open new empty window.

In MS Notepad, it will also create new file in the current window. As a alternative text editor, keeping the same behavior is acceptable imo.

@fz0000 : Ctrl+N has the same behavior as MS Notepad ?

@RaiKoHoff yes the Ctrl+N (or select menu File -> New) will Create the new file in the current window. And it doesn't have the shortcut Alt+N or Alt+Shift+N(i.e. the MS Notepad can not start a new window by itself).

Hello @lhflihongfang ,

Feel free to test the RC2 version "Notepad3Portable_5.20.224.1_RC2.paf.exe.7z" or higher.
See "Notepad3 BETA-channel access issue #1129" or here Notepad3Portable_5.20.224.1_RC2.paf.exe.7z.

Note: "Notepad3Portable RC2" can be used in "2 flavors" (with or without the extension ".7z").

Your comments and suggestions are welcome... 😃

Hello @lhflihongfang ,

As far as I'm concerned, I think you (requester) can close this issue...
