Files: Very strange sorting logic

Created on 1 Nov 2020  ·  2Comments  ·  Source: files-community/Files

Bug description
It appears that when selecting Sort by -- Name, the files in the folder are sorted by a rather curious logic when filenames contain numbers.

Steps to reproduce

  • Basically prepare a folder with files whose names contain numbers.

Expected behavior
Files sorted in an identical manner as in the conventional explorer.

Screenshots
Please see the below example (the prefix for all files are identical)
image

Ideally you would expect to sort the files (in ascending) so that we have:

S03E01
S03E02
...
S05E07 (right now it's down below)
...
S07E22 (right now it's somehow in the front)
...
S10E01
S10E02
...

Desktop (please complete the following information):

  • OS Version: Windows 10 20H2 19042.423
  • App version: v0.18.0

After restarting the app it became normal again.

I am still unsure what caused this temporary error in sorting the files. But given the behavior, it seems to be just a minor glitch.

I'll leave the decision of whether to pursue this issue or just close it to the contributors. Thank you.
