Operating Systems

Server: windows 10
Client: windows 10

Synergy Version

1.8..8-stable-c30301e

Steps to reproduce bug

so i have two pc's running, i move the mouse from the server to the client and click on something, it works.
a while later (1 minute, or more ...) i move the mouse from the server to the client and i see the mouse moving the the button or other ui reacting to the mouse but click does NOTHING
if i then move the mouse to the server and click an app and then move the mouse back to the client and click it works!

something about mouse click messages not getting created on the client for some reason i guess ??

@bangonkali if your issue is using Zoom meetings then the workaround is simple. Just open the synergy app on the server side and stop/start it. Synergy will steal the global hooks back. No need to restart any computers.

You should get back the hooks also when Zoom app is completely closed.

Have this problem too. Unconfirmed but maybe related to holding mouse button then moviung between. On Windows 7 + Arch

Side question, what happened to the old releases page? It used to be possible to downgrade when these kind of breaks happen which make the tool unusable for me, now how can I do it without building the source which I don't want to do.

I have this issue too. Running 1.8.7-stable-9799e96 on a Win10 pc (master) and a Mac OS10.10.5 (client).

If leave the mouse on the client for a minute, it loses ability to click. Can use keyboard and mouse icon shows, just cant click until I move mouse to Windows then back again, clicks work again. The last couple of releases have done this. SSL or not dont make a difference. Tested with no apps running on client with same result. Nothing shows in logs.

I've had this issue for 2+ years and it's getting worse again. 1.8.8-stable-25a8cb2 on both. Windows 10 on both. But the problem also happens with Win 10 server and Mac OS X Client.

Client already registers mouse movement, and hovering over things highlights them, only clicking doesn't function. When this happens, moving back to the host, clicking on anything, then back to the client and it'll work for a while.

I've got both set to Debug 2 and I'll try to capture the event.

Well isn't that special. The debug logging doesn't work to the directory pre-defined in the settings. Clearly it doesn't have rights to create a file in the c:program files\synergy directory. Had to change the location to within my user profile.

I also have the issue. Windows 10 Synergy Server and Mac OSX Sierra Client. Very odd. Sometimes i had to move the mouse back to the server display and move it back to the client for it to work. Had this happen during a live presentation. It was confusing. Had to restart all machines. Any tips on how to minimize its effect while a fix is not yet out?

I run into this issue with the Zoom meetings app. I think Zoom steals the global hooks and then you need to restart Synergy to get the hooks back. It's an annoyance I have to deal with every time I join a Zoom meeting. Also happens with WebEx meetings too.

@zxiiro by live meetings yes I was referring to a zoom presentation on the Mac! We had the same experience.

Is this a Server side or Client side problem?
I am encountering this issue, quite suddenly, after having 1.8.8 installed and performing well for over a month in a AD Group Policy controlled SOE running W8.1x64.
It has begun to occur very frequently ... and is characterised by the Client not injecting some Server originated mouse clicks into the queue! For instance the Client W8.1 application bar notices clicks because it throws up the thumbnail (for the running windows) ... but won't action the next click to bring the app into focus/foreground. Other things to consider [1] stop/start on the Client "fixes" the issue for a short time and [2] the Client wired mouse and Server synergy mouse seem to be squabbling over where the mouse pointer is/should be seen to be. At times I have to position the Server mouse so that the Client mouse click is detected in the correct location. Very strange ... as the apps running are very banal - Excel, Notepad++, Windows Explorer, Outlook!

More intel ... it appears (in some case at least) the mouse clicks _are_ being injected ... albeit very slowly!

I noticed that when using Chrome on the Client that clicking on tabs of open web pages happened in normal time ... but when clicking inside the web page nothing seemed to happen ... and then I noticed that the click was in fact actioned after several seconds had elapsed.

Moving the mouse back to the Server and then to the Client overcame this delay (for at least 1 click) as others have reported.

It suggests Synergy is getting bumped down the (hook) line by other apps ... and the clicks are being run past even lower backgrounded apps in the chain before finally getting back to the foreground app where it is eventually actioned. Alternatively I could be smoking' something baad?!?

Should we expect that to be fixed at Synergy 2?

Just bought and now running synergy 2 and still getting this. Feeling very unhappy with this software at the moment. So frustrating, movement tracking is fine but clicks and clipboard actions dont transfer, utterly infuriating, $30 for this?

I am also facing this problm in Synergy 2. With Windows 10 as Server and MacOS High Sierra as Client.
Please fix this fast, as it's a really annoying bug.

Synergy 2 here, same problem, mouse position and keyboard work fine but can't click. Windows 10 Host and macOS High Sierra client.

The workaround I've found for Synergy2 when this problem occurs is clicking in the client machine, than waiting for a reconnect.

This requires the client to have a mouse, which is very problematic if your client isn't a laptop.

I have w10 on client, w8.1 on server, both running v2.0.2-stable_b1253-665fa610-x64.

it seems like this problem has been fixed in v2.0.3, can someone confirm this?

I sure hope so, because it's still present in 2.0.2. Upgrading now!

Today the problem occured again with v2.0.3, so it is still not fixed. But it seems to happen less frequently??

Yeah, I downgraded to Synergy 1 for now.
At least it connects faster, and the click issue is less frequent and
straightforward to reset.

I'm also having this problem with two windows 10 machines, using pro. Very frustrating.

Same issues, two windows 10 machines.
I am puzzled how this can continue across versions. This should be a P1 until resolved. Some acknowledgment would also be nice. Folks have paid for the software but this bug is 100% app breaking.
From love to hate in 2 non-existence clicks....

Same here. Server Win 10 15063.786 client Win 7 6.1/7601/sp1.

I've identified an issue on my end causing this: I use Samsung SideSync on my server machine. Whenever the phone screen sharing feature is open I cannot click on anything on my client machine. Must be some conflict there.

I just had this issue and read @structure7 comment...
I then figured, what would be using an overlay manager on my Windows PC?
I found my issue to be when Origin was running. After closing that, everything worked flawlessly.

Keep in mind, that Origin was running on the SERVER PC and was also closed there :)

Hi all,

I had this too. Server is Win10 x64, remote PC a Win7 x64 laptop. With standard configuration -> everything works, EXCEPT left/right mouse button.

For me, the fix is to stop Syngergy on the server, exit, then restart is as administrator. There the mouse works again. (and yet, my only user is admin on this PC... go figure...)

Well, if I was using only Windows-based PCs, I would definitely recommend Microsoft Mouse without borders. It works flawlessly. But the thing is that at home, I frequently connect either Mac or now Linux on a former laptop, so I need some cross-platform goodness. :)

It's hard to believe, but this bug still exists in Synergy 2.0.7

Origin was the culprit for me. Exited Origin on the Server side and mouse click worked flawlessly.
Seems to be conflicts with some apps. If anyone's still stuck on this, try exiting all apps (both server and client PCs, especially online connecting apps) and and try Synergy again. After that, start up all the other apps again.

@TheeSilent: it's good that you found something taking priority over the hook in your case, but in mine, I am not willing to simply stop running a bunch of apps I need in the background just to please Synergy. As others pointed out, other similar solutions do work fine. It's up to Symless to work on that if they want our upgrade money. If not, tough luck for them.

@TheeSilent: Thanks for this precious hint!
I just needed to disable Microsoft OneDrive in Startup, now it seems to work. Fortunately I don't need One Drive and My other network using apps don't seem to interfere.
Though I agree to @meptalon, that this is still a major bug that needs to be fixed. It's not acceptable to quit any apps that are actually needed by the user.

Seems that I was happy too soon...
There must be some more apps that interfere.
Sometimes it works and sometimes not... Probably that depends on how fast and in which order that apps are started on system startup?

This literally happened to me twice while signing up for Github to chime in. OSX with Windows Server 2012. Had the same issue with an older windows 7 computer that was replaced by server 2012.

Just came here to say "me too" in Synergy v2.0.9. Restarting Synergy on the server seems to fix the issue for me.

Just came here to say "MEE TOO" in Synergy v2.0.10...

Both server-client Synergy v2.0.10-stable
Server Windows 10 Pro v1709
Client Windows 10 Pro v1803

Restarting server helps, but this happens too often to be viable option... sometimes every few minutes or often.

I'm getting the same issue with v2.0.12
Server Windows 10 Pro
Client macOS High Sierra

I've tried some of the above suggestions and while it may fix it for a minute or two it comes right back.

Origin running on the SERVER computer was the culprit for me as well. As soon as I closed it out the mouse worked like it was supposed to.

@Pilskalns @ibbo and all other "Me too" guys. Please stop making noise. You have "thumb-up" button in Bottom left corner part of main post in this thread to indicate that this issue affects you and is important to you.

As a General tip for everyone, FRAPS is the devil! running on the client it will create massive lag for mouse movement, running on the server it will create the lack of sending mouse clicks described here!

I use Mac OS Catalina 10.15.3 as the server and windows 10 as the client, because I need to use MAC keyboard and mouse, but the mouse can move on windows, but it can't be clicked correctly, and the command key of the keyboard is also invalid on win, sometimes it can be clicked on other software, but it can't click the program in the taskbar

I use 2 computers running Windows 10 as a server and as a client. The left mouse click is working on the client but the right mouse click is not working.

Linux Server and Windows Client here. Client clicks stop registering on the latest versions.
