Given a user is using the Signal desktop application for Windows, when using the X button to close the application, the application should minimize to the system tray, and should the user have a version of Windows with native notifications, notifications should still be received.
Given the application is minimized to the system tray, the user should be able to right click the Signal icon in the system tray to exit the application.
We already have beta support for minimizing to tray in the app. You can try it with the --start-in-tray or --use-tray-icon command line options. More information here: https://github.com/signalapp/Signal-Desktop/issues/1965
Lastly, in the future, please consider shorter issue titles. :0)
It is 2019 and this does not seem to be the default behavior, nor do I seem to find an option in preference. Weird. Pretty basic and expected behavior for a messaging app on Windows. ;-)

Agreed, this is a bit strange to not have added as a default or settings option if the beta support has been available since the middle of last year.
2020 checking in, feature still not available.
how is this a "closed issue" ? it is absolutely basic functionality for any messaging app and it is not implemented 2 years later ...
Likely because there's another open issue for it, and it does work but there is no option in the GUI to control it.
they should be ashamed of such lazyness
In an effort to consolidate issues, let's move discussion to #2210.
