As you can see, in the general case I can't reproduce that:

So there must be an issue with the _specific_ MP3 file you're trying to use.

As @peanutbutterandcrackers says, an MP3 with album art will be imported as a video file, because there _IS_ video (well, _visual_) content in it, which OpenShot will make use of by default: While the audio is playing, the album art will be displayed on screen. So, the file is _effectively_ a video file, in that it contains both images and sound.

As I said, that's "by default". If you don't want to display the image content, you can disable it and use the file as audio-only. The process for doing that is:

  1. Add the file to the Timeline as a new Clip.
  2. Select the Clip by clicking it.
  3. Position the Playhead at the start of the Clip. (The "Previous Marker" and "Next Marker" arrow controls on the Timeline toolbar can be helpful for quickly moving around a clip.)
  4. In the Properties editor, set "Enable Video" to 0*.

The clip's audio will be played without displaying the image.

The other option is to remove the album art or other image content from the MP3 file, which can be done with MP3 tag editing software.

  • – ("Enable Video" is normally set to "-1", which means "automatic" — video will be used if present.)

Perhaps it is because of the 'album art' embedded into the file? Perhaps you'd like to try the latest daily build which just so happens to be v2.4.2-rc1. v2.4.2 will be out soon.

Tried the new build and the tutorial still will not go away. Cannot import
audio, it shows up in video tab even though it is an MP3 format.
