Notepad3: Cannot enter Unicode characters with "Alt+" technique

Created on 7 Dec 2018  ·  5Comments  ·  Source: rizonesoft/Notepad3

In Notepad3 (tested both v4 and v5, on Windows 10) I cannot enter Unicode characters with the "Alt+" hack described here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unicode_input#In_Microsoft_Windows

For example Alt+2026 should enter an ellipsis: it works anywhere else in Windows but not in Notepad3: a different character is entered (Ω in my case). I guess that Notepad3 ignores the "+" on the numeric keypad, so Alt+2026 behaves like Alt 2026.

Is it a bug or could I configure a setting to make it work?

Thanks

The key combination Alt+NK+ has been intercepted by Accelerator Key-Map using Alt+NK+ to increase the "Long Line Marker" line. Disabling this seldom used Acc-Key (and the corresponding Alt+NK- for decreasing LLM) in favor for the universal Unicode input method.

Please test development beta version _5.18.1208.1450_RC2.

Hello @guidoselva ,
For the Unicode "U+2026" (Horizontal Ellipsis "" ) in Windows 10 the the "Alt Keystroke" is "Alt+0133" !
Just hold down "Alt" and type "0133" directly (do NOT type the "+"), when you release the "Alt" key, the (Horizontal Ellipsis) "" appears. 😉

unicode_2026

PS: If you want, you can try it with the latest "Notepad3Portable RC2" version available here, Notepad3Portable_5.18.1206.176_MUI_dev_RC2.paf.7z.

I know that, but I'm not particularly interested in the ellipsis, it was just an example :-)
I just noticed that Unicode characters can be typed with the "Alt+" technique anywhere in Windows (command line, Run menu, MS Office, notepad, notepad++...) except in Notepad3.
Please do not confuse Alt 0133 With Alt+2026 ("+" sign needed!), they are different things.

Sorry @guidoselva , I did not understand good your question. 😉
Indeed this Unicode Input "hack" works in: Command line, Run Line, MS Excel, (MS Word and Outlook use: "UnicodeAltx") Notepad, Notepad++, MS Visual Studio Editor,... , but NOT in Notepad3. 🤔 :disappointed_relieved:

Hello @RaiKoHoff , do you have any idea for this "problem" with Notepad3. (to try this Input method, you have to add a Registry Key "HexInputMethod=1" (see reg file in this zip file: HexInputMethod.zip )

Tested with : Notepad3 (64-bit) v5.18.1208.1450 RC2, now "Alt+2026" produces "" 😃

As far as I am concerned, this issue may be closed....
