Live-share: On-prem solution

Created on 15 Dec 2018  Â·  4Comments  Â·  Source: MicrosoftDocs/live-share

Please address full on-prem use cases with no internet connectivity. Is this supported? Can Auth just be via AD? Then all direct connect?

If this use case is not supported, then please clearly state. Also please include ETA for this feature.

This is an awesome new feature, but we worry that our company won't be able to use it.

@CalPolyRock Azure Active Directory based authentication is supported today (just use your corporate email when signing in), and if you choose "direct" mode, Live Share will not relay any traffic through the cloud and only attempt a direct point-to-point connection. It's also worth noting that even if you do use the relay, all traffic is end-to-end encrypted. Will this meet your need?

Due to requirements, we're 100% disconnected from the internet. We have our own AD server and could stand up any other local servers as necessary. No azure. It's not clear to me if this is supported. I really wish it is or will be!

@CalPolyRock Unfortunatley at the moment Live Share does not support on-prem/private cloud ADFS servers, but we are tracking interest in the feature here. I'm going to close this as a dupe of #341, but it would be awesome if you'd up-vote the feature request. We can add a note in documentation to this effect as well.

@Chuxel Are you sure, this is a duplicate? As far as I understood #341, the difference here is a complete on-prem solution (as in not traffic via external resources), while #341 looks only at the authentification, while still using the Microsoft services for sharing.
