Live-share: Use live with an internet disconnected network

Hi, For my understanding you need to be authenticated with Mircosoft Live or Github, but when you are not connected to the internet is there a way?

Hi, I have the same problem:

If the code is stored or moved through the cloud then that's a no-go anyway, because I would breach my employers/clients NDAs and I could get sued for that.

If nothing is transmitted over the cloud then why are we forced into an online mode? That restriction is than entirely artificial and unnecessary.

Redirecting to a privacy policy is not good enough if client data is involved (which is often the case if you are debugging), because it can be changed without further notice.

Working offline would instantly solve the privacy issue stuff, because nothing can get transmitted anyway.

Take care,
Martin

I would also love to be able to share while working offline, peer-to-peer connected.
Thanks!

Same here. Azure Relay is blocked by our firewall so this does even work for sharing with myself. If it works peer to peer then make it work or nearly no one can use it who works behind a decent firewall.

@Alois-xx Did you try using liveshare with Connection Mode set to "Direct" in liveshare settings? We do not use Azure relay for direct mode. Now for this to work on direct mode, there needs to be a direct network path between you and the joiner, which should be possible on corporate networks. If you guys are behind several layers of NAT or other direct IP hiding devices, then Direct mode will not work, and you will have to use Relay.

In summary, if your network allows for direct peer-to-peer connections, then with connection mode set to "Direct" you should be able to avoid using Azure Relay. If your network doesn't allow peer-to-peer connections, then we depend on the Azure relay

The original issue I believe is an ask for using Liveshare without connecting to our service for authentication, that's not the same as peer-to-peer connection concerns.

Hi,

So in offline network without internet connections peer to peer direct connection can be establish ?
Can you please confirm it.
Thanks

I'd like to see this feature added as well, as I'd love to use Live Share with my team but can't do so without it. Any chance this might be added?
