Context: during lichess4545 games, league members collect chat logs manually to ensure to keep a record of games that generate 200+ messages to hand them back to the players to review after their games.
Request: Since game chat is a significant element of the league's culture, here's a request to add this chat functionality to the lichess API. Also, if possible add move number to the log as not all spectactors include it manually when posting.
If ever acceptable, Lakin offers to code this API.
Thanks for the consideration
+1 to exposing the chat via API
I think move numbers are controlled by a different thread of lila and it was discussed before - https://github.com/ornicar/lila/issues/176 and similar issues
Not being familiar with the chat module and how it works, I can't comment on whether exposing it is feasible or a good idea. But I did offer to help implement it if the feature request was deemed acceptable.
it is acceptable. public chats are public data
I haven't forgotten about this, I just haven't gotten to it either
I would like to add that having chat logs easily available is very useful for bots. I have gotten lots of useful comments from the game chat, but I can't collect the messages sent after the games is over.
So I would also like to request chat read access through the API. If move numbers aren't possible timestamps would be appreciated
