Is there, or could there be an option to disable this? A couple times I've had the experience that starting VS code means losing one of my CPUs for 20 minutes, which discourages me from using it. It's also the kind of thing that's guaranteed to happen at the worst possible time, e.g. if I need to give a demo. (I know I could get everything indexed before the demo, but that's not how murphy's law works!)
There's no option to disable at the moment though a workaround would be to load a dummy (empty) environment.
We're re-working the indexing model as part of the next major release and I'll make a note of this
I've endured similar experiences. Looking forward to seeing the updates.
Same here. On my machine it takes very very very long time to index.
