Franz: Feature for blocking email tracking

Created on 8 Jan 2018  路  2Comments  路  Source: meetfranz/franz

Feature Description

A feature for blocking pixel trackers and similar things on gmail, similar to what extensions such as Pixel Block do.

Motivation and Context

Many emails today come with tracking that allow the sender to not only determine if the email was read or not, but also to gather information on the receiver. Gmail comes with automatic image blocking, which circumvents the problem partially, but if one wants to view the images in an email there is currently no way to avoid tracking in Franz. Some Chrome extensions, for example, allow the user to avoid this by blocking the tracking -- e.g. Pixel Block. It would be beneficial to have a similar capability added to Franz.

I have not deeply investigated the technical feasibility of this, but I assume it must not be too complex or at least feasible.

Interesting idea. We are currently sketching out a few possible solutions for improving the users privacy, this is definitely something to keep in mind here.

I'd love to see this added to Franz. I've disabled images from loading in Gmail to prevent tracking, but that's less than ideal...
