I love the fact that Franz has an internal spellchecking and a preference to choose a language but instead of selecting a single language for the spellcheck you should be able to add multiple languages in a list (making the first of the list the language used by Franz).
A good example is found in the settings menu of Google Chrome:

They even have an option to add Customised spelling which could be another good feature.
It'd be very interesting but I know that Electron didn't expose an API for this in the past. They claimed not every OS would be able to offer the same service. (OS X has a native spell checker while Windows doesn't or didn't).
Not sure if there any APIs available today but here's my 2 cents on this issue.
I would love to have this feature. Actually, this feature would be the one what would make me to drop the native Outlook and Slack clients.
I know Franz is using Electron. Electron is based on Chromium.
Wouldn't be possible to use Chrome's spell checking engine?
It even has automatic language recognition.
If not this, could we at least get the option to select a different language for spell checking than for the UI?
I would love to have multiple languages spell checking. It would be an awesome feature to add to Franz!!!!
Would love to have the ability to select different versions of English. I'm from the UK and the spell checker uses American English so a lot of the time I have to second guess myself with words I thought I'd spelt correctly!
Hi all,
This feature would be really convenient ! Working on MacOS all day, I got multi-language spell checking in Chrome / Notes / Etc. I was able to configure some versions of Franz (even Franz 4) to enable multi-language spell checker in some way, but since the mono-language dropdown has been added in options, this is not possible anymore.
Does anybody has an idea to bypass that ?
Thanks a lot.
Downgraded to 5.0.0 beta 18 and it's kind of working (french + english)
Same for me. I use English and Hungarian chats all the time and previously Franz actually had an automated siwtch that changed "after a while", but that wasn't really reliable all the time and I just don't like automated stuff to begin with.
So if I may add to this it would be nice to do it like it is in FireFox and just have a context menu entry for input boxes that allows you to change the language on the fly.
Best would be to have a per service setting, but just having this option would mean the world to a lot of us I'm sure. :D
+1 on this.
+1 on proper UK English option!
I think the request has been understood.
But keep in mind that Franz is currently maintained by only one developer if I'm not wrong (alongside me and other contributors). It takes a lot of time to handle all those issues, especially when the development had stalled for a long time as he was sick. It would also be better if you could upvote instead of posting new comments ! :slightly_smiling_face:
+1 on multi-language spell checks
Folks, I discovered we can change spoken language for spellchecking with a right click in Gmail in last Franz. Works for me so maybe it's enough for some people here while waiting a better implementation !
