Bisq: Losing money: An error occurred when taking the offer - A timeout occurred.

Hi,

I've just lost my take offer fee - twice - and it seems I just can't take any offer, it always ends in timeout. I tried to restart the application, but it timed out anyway and I lost the fee again. And no, it's not a very small amount as you state in the error message - I've lost about 10€.

I would be very appreciative if I could get my money back, althought I don't believe this is going to happen. I cannot get my head around the fact there's an issue with Bitsquare that costs me 5€ each time it occurs.

I don't think this log helps in any way to prevent this from happening again, but here it is:
bitsquare.log.txt

My question is, how I'm supposed to do transactions now? I cannot try to buy or sell anything, because I will just lose dozens of Euro while achieving nothing.

Most of the fee goes to miners... ;-(
We are close to a new release with 100s of changes so I dont want to investigate in the old code base. Hope if it was a bug that it will be solved by the new version.

Post an address and I'll reimburse you.

The eror message is a couple of days old when the price and fees have been lower. Compared to average trade sizes (0.5 BTC for fiat trades) the fee's 0.3% which is still low.

Thanks for attaching the log.

Thank you for quick response. Yes, the fee is reasonable, but I was saying it's not so low if you start loosing it several times in a row.

What am I supposed to do now? Try again, or stop using Bitsquare? I already re-installed it, but I don't want to try again if I can lose my money.

Do you use the latest version? 0.4.9.9.3

Yes, I always download the latest release as soon as I'm notified about it.

I've come across this issue before but don't remember how it got solved. I'll have to do some research later and will let you know.

OK, I'll wait then. If I should try again after I reinstalled it (and you'd be willing to refund me it it fails) please let me know. Thanks.

Those timeout issues can occur if one of the peer has network connectivity issues or a bug. best to avoid it is not to take same offer again. it is unlikely that it happens with other offers as well. and if so its prob. on your side an issue.

Also had this happen to me twice in a row today with the same offer. Unfortunately I only read this after trying the transaction for a second time.

Im running 0.4.9.9.3 and my connectivity is good, currently using a 100Mbps/100Mbps connection that's mostly idle.

While the fee is indeed not a lot of money, losing it when the transaction times out seems like a serious issue.

Was that an offer ID 00143478-02cf0534-7cab-4f81-840d-9ebd841dc279-04993? If yes, then we know the issue is on the peer's side. But it should not happen either way, the fees should be applied only when the transaction is confirmed.

Yep, that's the one.

OK, so that's definitely an issue on the peer's side. It would be great if the dev team could investigate as I'm sure there are more Bitsquare users who lost their fee on this offer.

Yes, there are others. I lost my fee on that exact same offer too.

Perhaps a possible exploit? Although the fee goes to the Bitsquare creators I believe... But still, I hope this will be attended to ASAP.

Oh shit, that was my offer :-)

Got an error message:
io.bitsquare.trade.protocol.availability.messages.OfferAvailability Request cannot be cast to io.bitsquare.p2p.messaging.MailboxMessage

ah ;-) could u send me the log file? is prob a bug... better start over with a new data directory

Closing as complete (I assume, as it looks like reimbursements happened via @ManfredKarrer and @MarcSte above). /cc #1167.
