iPhone 6s 64gb
iOS 10.3.3 (14G60)
Wire 2.4.1 (2874)
Wire app with large conversations freezes constantly. Trying to send a message often takes several minutes while the app freezes, attempts to reconnect, then unfreezes. This often results in a failed message, followed by needing to click the "resend" link (which freezes the app again) multiple times. Often several minutes pass between the original message being typed and sent and the recipient receiving the message. This causes message flow issues, confusion, and general frustration as the app becomes increasingly difficult to use.
Contacting Wire support, I was told to delete the conversation history entirely (not a good option) or to manually sort through tens of thousands of messages, delete photos, gifs, files, and audio, and "see if that works" - having deleted several hundred before this became impractical, it did not make the issue any better. Other Wire conversations are fine, as is the same conversation in the OSX Application.
Other notes: 22gb free on the phone. Issue occurs when other apps are closed, when the phone is charging or on battery power, on LTE/4g as well as Wifi. Phone has been rebooted multiple times.
My group of iOS users has also started seeing these exact behaviors now that the message history has become pretty large, similarly becoming increasingly unusable. I would also really prefer to not have to delete the history.
@kyle-fox @highmeh thanks for reporting, we are aware of the issue and looking to fix it in the upcoming releases.
I haven't seen the "several minute freeze", but when starting to type a message wire sometimes freezes for me for 10-20 seconds. I call still press the buttons on the keyboard. While the keyboard gui does not respond all the letters I typed get registered after the freeze is over.
I'm experiencing what @0ki mentions - frequent short hickups. They seem to be more frequent when Wire has been in the background - when I've entered several messages the freezes seem to disappear.
I was about to open a new issue but decided to jump in here. I have been waiting for the newest release to come out to make sure the issue is still present, and it is. I am on version 3.25 with loads of unused space on the device.
In larger 1:1 conversations if I search for and jump to a prior point in time .. the app freezes entirely and crashes. Repeatedly. Easily reproducible. @mikeger
deleting the conversation history isn't an option here - and the time frame of this conversation is over a year.
Another interesting tidbit - if you go back into time via search in a conversation and manage to get to a state where the app doesnt crash but takes forever to load ... and then switch to another app and come back to wire ... there is a delay, pause when you switch back to the app that leads me to believe that the app is searching again for the same point.
