hi!! how is it going?
I installed the fix using the guide in townofsilenthill.com but it's not working, it seems.
the game plays in 1920 x1080 but the image looks stretched to the sides, like if it's the original 3.4 proportion stretched to fill the screen.
I entereed the file and changed the x and y resolutions but nothing changed. So, it looks to me that the game isn't even using the fix at all.
it also syas in the guide that a local.fix file would be created but that didn't happen either.
what could I be doing wrong?
(please note I'm no computer expert, sorry)
thanks and take care.
I would need to know what your install folder looks like along with all the changes you made, because there's so many mistakes you can make following that guide. If @jdkubiak (creator of the guide) wants to help you with it he can, but when it comes to the widescreen fix all I can suggest is this:
@jdkubiak You should see if someone is willing to make you an installer for all of this. It could download, extract, rename, edit, and move the files to the appropriate folders based on user preference. Just something to consider for the future, because with sound and texture improvements on the horizon I doubt your guide is going to get any easier for the average user to follow.
Hi @Borghi ,
Would you please take a snapshot of the game's folder (typically at \KONAMI\Silent Hill 2\) so we can see all the files in its directory?
but the image looks stretched to the sides
The entire game looks stretched or just the FMVs or static images (such as the main menu, save screen, puzzle images)?
Does everything else seem to work okay? The "no CD" .exe; improved main menu images; IndirectSound; XinputPlus; fog fix; etc?

I've thought about this before, too. It would especially help for non-English speakers/readers. I've wondered how to approach the FMV Enhancement Packs as there are two options for it and both are large in size so I doubt someone would want to download a collective ~7 GB of data for that part alone.
Also, with an installer, I've wondered how to approach fix packages that are continually updated/improved upon such as IndirectSound? Someone whose experienced with making installers probably has an easy solution for these things!
Hello! and thanks for answering so soon.
The whole game was stretched (menus included), except for the FMVs.
I did what aero said and it fixed it.
i think the problem was in the update. the first time I did it the game launched with the konami screen looking fine (with pillar bars at the sides) and then the mod updater launched. I updated it (i think i did it correctly), and the next time it was all stretched.
This time i canceled the updater and didn't do any update, and now it looks good.
now i have to advance with all the other parts of the process to see if other weird things happen. I'll keep you updated.
About making an installer, yes, that would be extremely helpful.
If it helps, as a fan of the classic experience, I would always choose the original fmvs with pillar bars at the sides. just cause the 16:9 ones cut original material from the upper and lower side,.

So if that was the issue, you can start over again following jdubiak's guide, but this time don't install the game in Program Files. Use another folder like C:\MyGamesFolder\Konami\Silent Hill 2\
Alternatively you can have the game run as an administrator by right clicking the exe and going to the compatibility tab, but this is not recommended. If none of that works you can delete modupdater.asi in the scripts folder so you won't be prompted for any updates.
yes, I'll disable the updater, thanks.
I have a new issue that strangely didn't happen the first now but is happening now.
it's regarding Xinput. I do all what the guide says but when i put APPLY it says this;
The DLL file which is not XInput Plus exists in the folder of an Target program. DLL of XInputPlus is inapplicable.
Do you have any idea why could this be happening?
You'll have to rename the Widescreen Fix's dinput8.dll file to d3d8.dll.
This is because Xinput Plus creates its own dinput.dll and dinput8.dll files to work.
@AeroWidescreen from your response it sounds like you know specifically what the issue was. Is it an admin rights confliction thing inconjunction with the mod updater?

I guess so. I don't know what the exact reason is, but if you install the game in program files then modupdater will fail to replace the dll unless you run the game as an administrator. I've been able to avoid that by simply installing the game in a different folder. It's not a problem unique to Silent Hill.
Oooh, is the same true about it not replacing the .ini files as well? Because on my desktop it doesn't but on my laptop the game runs as admin and it replaced the .ini there (which is why I opened that wndmode.ini support ticket with you due to the confusion).
I don't recall having any trouble with the ini being replaced, but I manually update most of the time so I can replace the dev build I was using. So yeah, it's a possibility.
Forgot to reply to this...

Do you want to download the Enhanced FMV Pack?
Which version of the Enhanced FMV Pack do you want to use?

Something like that I'd imagine.

Yeah I'm not sure about that one.
Apologies, I should have clarified on that (the FMV part). I've never done or worked with someone before on making an installer so a more detailed question would be:
Would both versions of the FMV packs have to be "stored" in the installer itself? Because the installer would be _huge_ in file size if that's the case. If not, how does the installer retrieve the correct version of the FMV pack the user wants to download? Does it connect through an FTP to grab the package? Or simply call an HTML download link?
And I figure at the end of the installer (once it's finished) I force an Internet page to pop up directing them to additional info for the fix packages for them to read over.
These are questions I'll need to ask someone whose done this before.
Oh, I get what you're saying now. You're absolutely right, this is all something you would need to discuss with this person.
Hi, I can take a shot at this. It shouldn't be too difficult with something like NSIS.
I'd want to use Amazon S3 or something for hosting, though, so we don't bring townofsilenthill.com down.
@seagull Hold tight for a bit first though, please. A revamped method on how to install may be coming down the pipeline soon-ish.
