Would help with learning the editor and there's plenty of horizontal space in the GUI :)
Wouldn't it be better to use tool tips for that? (especially that it's easy to add with Qt; not sure about wxWidgets)
It's easier if they're always visible IMO
Not really. It will become a very messy and cluttered UI. Most apps show hot keys via tool tips.
Too much visual clutter that only helps few people.
@kduske so, no tool tips either ?
Sure, that would be useful. I have updated the issue to be about that.
Showing hotkeys helps everyone who uses the program
And fwiw the toolbar currently looks like this:

Adding letters next to each button is not going to make it cluttered.
@mikejsavage Doesn't mean adding hot keys text next to each icon is needed. It's going to look as ugly AF, it's going to reduce readability. How lazy can one be to not to hover mouse over the icon and read tool tip? (which can also be easily localized and contain a bit of description besides hot key itself)
No, it helps everyone who isn鈥榯 proficient yet. I am sure that it makes learning (some) hotkeys easier, but it is just a fraction of all hotkeys in the editor, many of which do not have a corresponding UI element at all. So it really just helps a fraction of users learn a fraction of the hotkeys, and that鈥榮 not worth changing the UI for IMO.
Agree on having tooltips with keyboard shortcuts for any UI elements that have shortcuts
