Tdesktop: Change the "Always on Top" behavior of the Call Popup (allow hide the popup)

Created on 10 May 2017  路  18Comments  路  Source: telegramdesktop/tdesktop

Steps to reproduce

  1. Have a friend and ask them to make a call.
  2. Use another application and have it in focus.

Expected behaviour

The notification (pop-up window in this case) doesn't interrupt the user's current workflow.

Proposal: Just show the popup when Telegram Desktop has focus. When another application is in focus just show a system notification. Telegram Desktop works on multitasking systems.

Actual behaviour

The popup window is positioned over any application or workspace disrupting the user's current workflow and causing annoyance.

Configuration

Operating system: Solus 2017.04.18.0 64-bit (GNOME)
Version of Telegram Desktop: 1.0.37 alpha
Used theme: None

Note: Another improvement would be to allow the call to be muted from the popup or notification.

@stek29 The Skype notification is small and can be hidden without canceling the call. In addition the new skype beta in linux includes an in-app notification. The Telegram Desktop call pop-up would not be so annoying if it was not positioned over all other windows and included a button to minimize or hide it.

The popup window is very nice, but it's annoying. No other messaging system that supports calls or video calls has an intrusive notification like this.

@haevalencia Skype?

@haevalencia Precisely if I could hide the popup window (and allow the call to be muted) would be an acceptable solution. I added the possibility of using a notification, since activating the native notifications in Telegram Desktop is possible to have a better integration with the system. Eg View an incoming call on the lock screen.

@diazbastian Makes sense 馃

I changed the report title to better reflect the problem. Showing a notification is a possible alternative (or additional feature).

Hello, testing the calls on desktop the truth is annoying the box in the middle of the work I am doing, add the call alert option in the message notification.

Yes, it's especially annoying when you are in full screen app (games etc)...
For now, it's force me to close T. Desktop before online gaming :(

It used to just go away, current behavior is very annoying.

Issue is not resolved yet.
P.s. Auto close rules must be revised? With new _reactions_ instead of _+1 comments_ policy...

I don't even know why the call popup is still this insanely intrusive and there's no response from the telegram team, how hard could it be to add an option to disable it? This forces me to disable calls from everyone...

For me personally I almost always have a phone lying around so I'd like to have an option to disable call sounds/notifications on desktop completely. It's very annoying when you receive a call while you're gaming or watching a movie in full-screen.

While we are all waiting for fix. You can try my mod (tested only on windows), or make something similar...

Since the calls settings menu wasn't a thing at the time this issue has been opened, I just would like to say that now we have a place where a "show calls popup always on top" setting would fit well

I had to deactivate the calls just for this problem. This should become a configurable option.

Hey there!

Still needed.
