The way I use tasks is that for me the time/date specified for a task is not the due time, but rather the earliest time at which it makes sense for me to look at this task.
For example: the rubbish collection company wants me to move the rubbish bin outside the fence every other Wednesday, early morning. So while the real "due time" is 6am on every other Wednesday, it does not make sense to spam my view with this task until about 9pm every other Tuesday. Currently I simply set the due time in Tasks to 9pm Tuesday + fortnightly repetition, and always use a filter which hides tasks with due time "tomorrow or later". This kind of works, but still shows me the "evening" tasks from the very morning, which just spams my view and makes it hard to focus, especially when different priorities are involved, and an high priority "9pm" task that I cannot do yet anyway pops before a medium priority 8am task, which I _should_ do right now.
It would be great if there was a more granular filter - even hourly precision would be perfect.
Another way would be to have another field, "hide before" that would have this filtering precision, but I'm not sure the increase of complexity is worth it.
There's "hide until" feature, which has the option "day before due date" (or similar, I am using a different language). It may be hidden, as you can customize the task editor to your liking in the settings.
Except for the _time_ that soundls exactly what you're describing.
Yeah, regarding day granularity I'm fine. I'm specifically asking for more
precise (at least hour resolution) filtering.
Use hide until and set it to the next time it shall be shown. When the task is done and repeats itself, tasks will remember something like the time between due date and hide untill. the new task will be shown at 9pm on Tuesday as you want it.
I have thought about adding more granular time filters, however I haven't really dug in to the custom filter functionality much yet so I don't know what will be involved.
But as @MPK44 said, if you have 'Take out the trash' due at 6AM on Wednesday, and you set hide until to 9PM the night before, when you complete the task it should be hidden again until the following Tuesday at 9PM
Thanks, sounds like this feature should do what I would like. However the
Polish translation has an issue: the first two items in the drop-down are
the equivalent of English "deadline" and "by deadline", respectively, which
is confusing since there is no difference in meaning between them. What are
they in the English version?
Seems to be deadline day and deadline time. Probably first will show it beginning midnight.

OK, this "hide until" feature seems to do the trick nicely. I guess this issue can be closed.
I managed to find the strings (due_date and due_time) and just submitted corrected translations and comments via the getlocalization.com UI. They are still ranked as 2nd, so I guess something needs to happen before they are used.
