Super-productivity: (dekstop version) Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS freezes from pomodoro timer

Your Environment

• Version used: superProductivity_6.1.0_amd64.deb, (also superProductivity_6.1.0_amd64.snap)
• Operating System and version: Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS
• Desktop Environment: ubuntu:GNOME

Expected Behavior

The pomodoro timer should start counting and the time should be tracked to a task.

Current Behavior

System freezes after I pressed to start button, I had to pkill via ctrl + alt + f3.
Timer displays same time without counting down.
If I press pause quickly enough some time elapsed and the system unfreezes.
The timer did work a few days ago.

Steps to Reproduce (for bugs)

counters seem to have no effect.
Timer works without the pomodoro timer.

I am unable to reproduce this. It might be related to this issue #675

Could you maybe check if the latest release fixes the issue (once without the command line flag and once with it)?

I updated to Ubuntu 20.04 today and noticed that my system did not freeze anymore, but became slow and the timer started lagging (only refreshed every ~2-3 seconds). Reading the thread it is definitely related, likely the same issue.

Here it is without the timer. It fluctuates around 8% CPU.

I notice in the other issue the problem is solved, so I will follow those steps and reply here later if that fixes the issue.

Here is the CPU usage with the disable tray, before updating the program.

After updating to 6.1.1 (edge instead of stable) and using the disable tray, it did not seem to work.

For completeness sake I also ran it without disable tray, but no luck.

Thanks for getting back to me! Could you maybe check your version of the AppIndicator extension (see screenshot). What also might help is the output of journalctl -f. I am pretty sure that this is a gnome issue in one way or the other, but as likely many people are affected, I'd like to provide a work-around either way.

I would love to show you my version of the AppIndicator extension, but I'm not able to find how to look up my version or get to my extensions (I'm not very experienced) :(

Coming back to the appindicator. It seems I needed to install gnome tweaks.

No worries. I have to look this stuff up regularly too. :)

The journalctl output actually looks like the update to 6.1.1 is not yet installed. The warning should be printed much less frequently then it appears (as work around until a real fix comes along the app indicator is simply updated less often).

It also might help if you update the gnome shell extension for the indicators:

Sharp eyes! It seems turns out I installed them alongside each other (snap and deb :speak_no_evil:) and selected the older version in my test.
Launching the new version solved the problem, your workaround worked! I'm excited to use the app in its full glory again soon!
I will remove the old version and show you the screenshots for completeness sake (possibly tomorrow).
And thank you for the advice, I will update it :)

Thank you! I am glad that it works now. This weird issue with the appindicator caused quite some headache :) I hope the fix will be out on most channels soon.
