Bug Description

When writing with a friend it only works on my phone (iOS) but using the Desktop App I only see my own messages. For her messages I see a vast number of error messages saying "Error handling incoming message". It seems that this error message occurs not only for the sent message but also for the sub-messages like if the message has been sent/read or if the other person is typing.
The same happen when there is chatter in Signal groups (the old ones) that we are both part of. The she even gets those error messages on her phone (Android).
Oddly enough this only happens with our phones. I heard from some friends who experience this also but everytime it was only with one other person and with other persons it worked without any problems.

We had this error for a time now and it's kind of annoying. Is there a way to fix this?

Steps to Reproduce

It's difficult to reproduce, since this bug seems to appear randomly, i.e. it is not clear why it occurs to some but not to others.

Actual Result:

The error message:
"Error handling incoming message"

Expected Result:
The message should be shown instead. And information like if the message has been sent/read.

@noniq That 'note to self' conversation is a way for you to share information between all of your devices. Errors show up there when one of your other devices tries to send a message to this device, but that fails. Please continue providing logs whenever you run into this going forward.

You should be able to fix things up by selecting "Reset session" in the top-right menu while in that conversation.

Thanks for reporting. We're looking into this issue and others.

If you experience this again, we'd love it if you sent us more debug logs, as more information can always help us debug.

I'm experiencing exactly the same problem(s). Here's the Signal Desktop Log: https://debuglogs.org/d164cf9378c4c3463f33fff89787772212f1c5a3b1d723ee23d7cf49903aba41

One additional observation: I noticed a new “Notiz an mich” (note to self) chat in the Desktop app. It has more than 30 entries, all showing “Fehler bei eingehender Nachricht”. In the iOS app the chat looks like this:
IMG_3968 I do not actively use this chat, neither on iOS nor in Signal Desktop. No idea where these messages are from.
