Sending a message while a voice message is playing often (but not always) stops and resets voice message playback. Same thing happens when scrolling so that the voice message is out of view. Android doesn't behave like that, so I'm assuming it's not intended.
Actual Result:
voice message usually stops playing and resets to 0:00
Expected Result:
voice message continues playing

@haffenloher how far back is the voice message in the list? If it's a bit far back off the window's viewport then it's probably recycled/removed from the UI to improve scroll performance. I've tested sending short messages while the voice recording is still in view and it continues playing.
@josh-signal What happens for me is this: I receive a voice message, click the play button and send a reply while it's still playing and fully in view, at which point playback usually stops and resets to 0:00.
Edit: somehow I can't reproduce it right now, but this has been bugging me for months :(
@haffenloher yeah you mentioned it doesn't always happen. I'll keep looking out for it and see if I can reproduce it.
Just happened again in a very long thread (not sure if that matters):

My reply on the bottom right stopped and reset the voice message playback.

@haffenloher how far along were you on playback before it reset? Can you describe more details on the steps you took that reproduced it? Does it reproduce reliably or still intermittently?
Intermittently. If it happens once, it never happens a second time with that same voice message (I think?). Will try to describe in more detail:
I think this only happens when there's an "x unread messages" divider (which disappears when I send my message).
@haffenloher I just tried this exact same scenario and with the unread messages divider and couldn't repro :( I'm trying on both MacOS and Windows. Will continue 👀out for this
Weird 😕 I can consistently reproduce this when the divider is there.
@haffenloher I'm going to try and build an example of your reproducible scenario in storybook to see if I can get it to reproduce there. In the meantime, would it be possible for you to take a screen capture/gif of the bug?
Here you go:

Just noticed that resizing the window / changing its width also resets voice message playback every time.
@josh-signal I have the same bug, when I reply the message and also then resizing the window.
Also this when I reply to specific message, any message, the problem perssist.
Signal version v1.34.1
Windows 10 version 2004
Any help I can deliver please let me know
Can confirm; one voice message stopped when I sent a message. But then it didn't happen with another… 🤷♂️
EDIT: I think it stops when it's the first audio message you respond to, if there were no texts immediately after.
EDIT 2: Never mind; it's not consistent…
The same happened to me on Linux, Signal 1.37.3. I sent the emoji and the message stopped playing and was reset.
Here is the conversation:

The message I sent has this ID:

Also experiencing this on the latest 1.39.2 release..
Just wanted to give an update here: this is still on our radar and we haven't forgotten about it.
