@mgolebiowski if the group name is not automatically properly updated on Signal-Desktop, you definitely found a bug I think

Hi there. Can you break your 'bug description' section down into specific steps? It's a little unclear what exactly happened. Thanks!

hey, I found "import contacts list" button in settings that do what I thought should be done flawlessly on every time app is opened. So, I think, I didn't found a bug, I just found a feature.

Just some more information:
On the weekend I

  • Created a group on my Android device
  • Messages were exchanged in this group

Today I returned to my office Singal desktop installation. There I saw the group named _Unknown group_, but the messages were present. _Import contacts list_ (as mentioned by @mgolebiowski) helped in this case.

Now I wanted to reproduce it with my private phone, company phone and Desktop installation, but was not able to. Right now I don't know why.

I can't reproduce this too. Its possible that the problem occurs when group has been created by another person when desktop app is closed, but I can't check it right now.

@mgolebiowski If desktop is offline for a long time, all sorts of things can happen, like the 'Unkonwn Group' entry you mention above. If desktop is offline only for a small time (when few messages were exchanged) then you shouldn't see odd behavior.

Is a weekend a _long time_?

@KommX that depends on how many message were sent to your account on that weekend.

@KommX The Signal Server only saves 1000 messages in its queue, which works for mobile clients pretty well, since they are connected more often than not. Desktop, however, can be offline for a long time. A good rule of thumb is that if the counter on Desktop startup ever gets to 1000, you've probably lots some messages, pushed out of the server cache as new messages displaced them.

Ok, then this is not the issue here.
Between the creation of the group on my Android phone and the sync on the desktop client I exchanged a small two-digit number of messages.

This issue has been inactive for over 2 years and we've made a lot of changes to how groups work, so I'm going to close. Let me know if that's wrong and I'll reopen.
