Right now, the tray icon is not default and one must start Signal with --start-in-tray or --use-tray-icon. Instead, I would suggest having --use-tray-icon be the default and --start-in-tray be a configuration option.
--help, and -h don't do anything when it comes to Signal).Actual result:
No tray icon.
Expected result:
Tray icon appears.
Signal version:
Signal v1.1.0.
Operating System:
Debian GNU/Linux x86_64 sid/experimental, kernel 4.14.12.
Linked device version:
Signal 4.14.10 (Android 7.0, Samsung Galaxy S7).
This is because it's still in testing. Thanks for your vote of confidence. I'm going to close this.
Hi @scottnonnenberg, any new insights on this topic? Thank you.
I am having the same experience as OP--I typically resort to --help or man if I can't find documentation/wiki online and failing that, I was surprised there's no notification tray so I googled until I came across this issue. With the nature of this app and the lack of --help, the default should be a tray icon.
I'm currently going through the changelogs to figure out what other features I may be missing out on.
Is it time to turn this on yet?
Also wondering if this can be turned on as it's been almost a year
10th of march 2020, do we have an ETA?
This issue is still tracked here: #2210
agreed. I thought there was a problem with my system tray
Welcome to 2021. Still no default tray support. :(
With the recent WhatsApp debacle and Signal's obscene increase in popularity it's time to make this the default.
This is what's usually expected, and a lot of people trying out Signal vs Telegram are going to notice the lack of tray and of the configuration option and weigh it negatively, as I almost did!
