New user and trying this out as a replacement. While I like the idea of linking to my phone the desktop app is key here as I spend most of my time at the desk.
Minimizing to the taskbar (clock area) is needed. I was kind of shocked that this was not available when I installed. Having an open tab all the time just doesn't make sense especially for someone like me with many tabs open most of the time. Being able to minimize to an icon in the taskbar is MUCH more convenient and I would say the 'typical' behavior for apps like this. Quick and easy access when you need it and out of the way when you don't.
Because people keep opening new issues for minimize support, I'm going to leave this open for now. Task bar support was added in https://github.com/WhisperSystems/Signal-Desktop/pull/1676, and will be available in the next beta build.
hi scott @scottnonnenberg @scottnonnenberg-signal
why can't minimize to system tray instead of taskbar? has anything been done for this?
thanks..
@Labirent The feature is still in beta - you can try it out with command-line arguments:
--use-tray-icon: enables the tray icon
--start-in-tray: enables the tray icon and the application starts minimised in the tray bar
That's great, thank you very much!!
Oh yeah, that's perfect!! I just added the options to the shortcut on windows. Debian-like should be the same.
I'm going to close this in favor of #1847. Let's move discussion there.
