This is probably more notification than most people would want to receive.
Signal-Desktop does not "fire" anything on your phone. The problem is that the two devices don't have share any indication of user presence.
To add to this, when I open my laptop after having had a conversation on my phone with SEVERAL messages, the app spams me with notifications. The time between the notifications indicates to me that perhaps the app is downloading each message individually, opposed to a bulk retrieve. In this situation it may be desirable to process the messages in bulk
Alternative when starting Signal Desktop, maybe it would be possible to wait for every retrieved message, if there will be downloaded a read-state within let's say 10 seconds. If, then no notification is necessary, if not a notification can be shown.
Right at the moment, the new (old and already read) messages are shown as notifications, and after some moments marked as read....
Pretty sure we no longer have this problem.
