Kids on avatar maker projects often comment, "how do I save it?" and are confused about the avatar upload process. It would be nice if they could set their avatar from a Scratch project. It would be extra nice to provide a cropping step in between project snapshot and set as avatar.

A "save picture of stage" menu option would also be helpful for this:
Taking a picture of the stage has long been a requested feature itself
And my PR #4787 is not reviewed despite having "needs review" :(
nice practical question and nice ideas; there are several methods (used to be a robust screen/partial screen 'image grabber' which was always available & saved to a selected location as png: perhaps its still around/ has been adapted); the avatar at left of this comment is a png file, so png seems a reasonable place to begin: eg, click ones avatar thats shown in the upper right corner when in this, then select & click 'Your profile'(top item on dropdown list), then in the new screen which appears click on 'Edit profile' under the large profile avatar on the left, and things to do are presented; or, eg, a file can be opened with 'Paint' (etc, according to OS) and its size & other features can be adjusted, and then it can be 'Saved as...' a png etc file type (according to OS/ program etc), which will yield a file of appropriate characteristics for use as an avatar(here); or, various 'Screen capture'/'PrtSc' methods may be used to directly save entire screens into 'Clipboard' & then pasted into eg 'Paint', & then adjusted (depending on OS/ program etc)
