Windows build number: Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.19041.264] - Windows 10 2004
PowerToys version: v18.1
PowerToy module for which you are reporting the bug (if applicable):
Type Alt-Space to bring up PowerToys Run
Type Notepad
It shows Notepad Win32 application which I want plus other items found
Click Notepad option it found
I would expect the Notepad application to open
PowerToys Run dialog goes away after I click on Notepad, but nothing happens and Notepad doesn't open.
I've tried this running PowerToys as non-admin and administrator too and get the same result - Notepad doesn't open.
If I click the Run As Administrator icon next to Notepad in PT Run output, then Notepad opens.
I can use PT Run to start other apps like Wordpad, Paint and Calculator without issue.
Notepad on my PC: C:\Windows\System32\notepad.exe
Window key + R -> Notepad opens Notepad just fine as expected.
Notepad - Open Containing Folder icon in PT Run opens:
C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories
Nothing but IE shortcut in here. Notepad icon is not in here. Why is PT Run accessing this folder which is different from the folder it accesses for Paint and Wordpad below????
Paint - Open Containing Folder icon in PT Run opens:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories
Contains shortcuts for Paint, Notepad, WordPad, etc.
I can't say I can reproduce your behaviour on the same build of Windows 10 as you. I'm using PowerToys v0.18.1 as Administrator.
Can you confirm you can open Notepad using the in-built Run program? I.e., Ctrl + R, type "notepad" and press Enter.

I meant to include that in my original post that Win+R -> Notepad (not Ctrl+R) does work fine and opens the Notepad app as expected as it has always done.
Additional hint information ( going to add this to my original post too):

That's pretty odd. In my case, the directory address for both Notepad and Paint is: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories.
Wonder why ProgramData would be replaced by Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming in your case for Paint only.
I recall %USERPROFILE% is an alias for C:\Users\Name which is used for some Path variables in System Environment Variables, though uncertain if that's applicable here.

I think you meant Notepad only - the one that's not working.
PTRun works to start Notepad on two Windows PCs which are pre-2004, but not working on the one with Windows 10 2004. Is it working for anyone with Windows 10 2004?

Hi, as per the gif a few posts up, Notepad is working for me on Windows 10 v2004.
I'm using v18.2 now and the original issue seems to be resolved on my PC. PT Run folder for Notepad is now reported as C:ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories and PT Run does open Notepad now.
