we believe (validating with telemetry now) that the mouse cursor is the better solution for having the default monitor layout selection for the editor / layout.
A great example is "what is actually in focus here"?

due to this, we want to remove this setting to simplify the end user experience
No, please keep it in. It's very important.
There is very little reason to use the mouse on Windows, apart from playing games (and the odd, unfriendly program or settings dialog, but those can mostly be avoided).
FancyZones probably creates 80% of my mouse usage for me.
Selecting a FancyZone-Layout, and whilst my hand is on the mouse anyway, I might as well drag the windows in position.
If you'd simply tweak the menu a little, tiny bit, I'd do that and move all windows with win+left/right instead.

I know this isn't priority 1 (which.... please, please make it priority 1?), but it's something that will happen eventually?
And at some point hopefully in the nearer future , I'll be able to select&apply a custom working layout with a keybinding.
And those changes would make FancyZones from painfully "almost cool" to "really cool", which is at least a dozen times cooler.
But if that's the case, how on earth would I remember where I parked my mouse cursor?
Then it's a tiny and for 99% of my computer time, completely inconsequential speck of white on who knows what background on who knows what monitor.
[honestly, a big reason of why I don't do a triple monitor setup, because having to keep track of the stupid mouse cursor is hard enough with two monitors]
I understand that telemetry at the moment would show you this, but this is in large part, because you have to know where the mouse cursor is anyway, since you'lll have to use it to change the Layout.
Since the cursor always has to be near the middle of the correct screen to select another Layout, there's no point in measuring this with Telemetry.
Once FancyZones takes a couple tiny steps in the right direction, it would make Windows 10 a lot more keyboard-accessible and it might attract people who ignore Windows, cause they can't live without i3.
People like me, who think that the invention of the computer mouse was a civilizational mistake.
I wholeheartedly agree with David's point of view.
@enricogior, i think with the idea we make the editor multi-mon aware, this becomes irrelevant as well. correct?
@crutkas
yes, we will remove this option when releasing the new editor.
On second thought, this is still useful even when the editor will support multi monitor because it will automatically auto select the current monitor in the editor, otherwise the users will have to open the editor, move the mouse to the primary monitor, select the desired monitor in the editor.
My suggestion is to reorganize the FZ option, leaving the most common directly available and grouping the less common under an "advanced" section.
I propose to close this one, the option is useful and removing seems unnecessary.
We can also use it for other features that have been already planned: when using the shortcut key to switch layout, we will switch only the layout on the "active" monitor, and this option can be used to let the user decide what should be considered the "active" monitor.
