Franz: Receiving video files in Hangouts fails and blocks sending messages

Describe the bug
I received a video file in Hangouts. It didn't show up in Franz, but I could view it from my phone's Hangouts app.

Trying to send messages resulted in "Message not delivered" until the tab was reloaded. If I opened up the same conversation with the video after reload, this behavior returned. If I didn't open the same conversation, I could continue sending with others.

Receive video
Try to view it / try to send messages

Expected behavior
Video should be viewable either within Franz or as a link to a browser.
Messages should be able to be sent regardless of other errors.

I'm having the same issue.

I've tried reloading hangouts, disabling and re-enabling the hangouts service, completely closing and restarting Franz.

I've also tried to clear the Franz cache, but that just shows the spinning wheel forever, and never seems to delete anything.

Lastly, I tried reinstalling Franz, but that also did not fix the issue.

EDIT: I don't remembering having received a video, but I had received several images, which appears to have resulted in this same problem. I fixed the issue by going into https://hangouts.google.com/ and actually deleting the conversation that I thought was the culprit.
Obviously not a perfect solution because you have to actually delete the conversation from your Google Hangout's history, but it got Franz working again.

Probably not surprising, but this behavior disappears when the video scrolls high up enough in the history that Hangouts doesn't load it. Scrolling back up to load that area of the conversation triggers the bug again, and messages can't be sent again until a reload occurs.

Can confirm this bug. Is this a bug that occurs in Chrome in general or just the version Franz uses?

This has never occurred in Chrome for me. I've been using Hangouts in Chrome for years and tend to stay relatively up-to-date on browser version

can confirm this. cant send any messages anymore after getting a video.

and again. after recieving a video, I'm not able to send messages.
also I even cant see the video in franz. it shows as an empty message.

I'm getting this error - i didn't realize it was from receiving a video. i have 2 instances of hangouts connected to franz and both are giving me the "message not delivered"

any workarounds before this issue gets fixed?

I too am having the same issue, and the likely culprit is also a chat where I got a video sent.

On Ubuntu 18.04, using AppImage version 5.4.1.

I'm afraid this issue is getting worse because hangouts is generating preview images for urls in the meantime. Sending a link to a youtube video breaks the hangouts view in the meantime until it disappears in the history.

As said earlier this happens with video links also so hangouts is unusable at the moment :(

That's what I've had to do too, several times. It just happened now when I sent a YouTube URL to someone. After that, any response I typed said "Message undelivered". I had to delete that user in Hangouts and re-add them.

it's sufficient to open the chat with the video link in gmail or hangouts.google.com, send one page of
a

a
etc
reload hangouts in franz!

as a workaround ask your friends to send the youtube link without the https://

What's going on with this bug? I actually pay for Franz and am strongly reconsidering that decision, is anyone actively supporting this product anymore?
