Electricitymap-contrib: Breakdown by U.S. States

Created on 28 Jan 2018  Â·  10Comments  Â·  Source: tmrowco/electricitymap-contrib

It would be nice to know the breakdown of import or export by States for Wind or other sources of energy that is posted on this map.

I will see what I can find from our group as to what is available for Maine.

Keep up the good work, this is a useful tool.

Yes with the way the USA is divided into states showing generation &
import/export for each state would be more relatable to people.
Unfortunately we do not have data by state and have to use the current grid
regions.

@Eric-A-Tuttle-1954 Though we split the US into states on the map in reality electricity generation does not follow statelines except in a few cases. Quite a bit of the US grid is totally private with no data available.

143 is a long running issue about this. If you know of any extra real-time data sources for the US that would be very useful.

My thought was to Better indicate as to which states were Net Producers or
Net Exporters and which were Net Consumers.

In that Northern New England is either a Pass Through from Canada or a Net
Exporter.

Maine appears to be Importing from Canada, though it is a Pass Through or
Net Exporter of in-state generation.

Thank for your unexpected reply.

Thanks for writing @Eric-A-Tuttle-1954. @systemcatch already answered you, so I will close this issue.
Feel free to open a new one if you find Maine data!
Thanks for the help.

Olivier

Is it possible within the project to place Coordinate entry boxes for the
user to make an entry?
Then have a pointer indicator for the coordinates to focus upon like a dot.

This would assist in identifying specific wind farm locations so that my
group's individuals could place a mouse-over consistently
and observe wind speeds for the specific target for the day or time.

I am attempting to provide a data spreadsheet where they can log
information in an orderly manner for evidence purposes.

With luck, I hope to provide this spreadsheet to other organizations that
are able to extract data in their locations that do not provide
public real-time information.

If not, we will have to wing it a bit with approximations of locations that
each of us intends to target.
It would also aid in tracking Solar Farm outputs as well.

Thanks!

I think https://github.com/tmrowco/electricitymap/issues/509 might be what you're looking for? Reliably getting a specific location on the map.

I am not seeing anything at #509 other than a closed conversation or
comment.

Reliability getting a specific location on the map is the objective, though
each user would have a different point of interest.

I was hoping that by entering coordinates as shown in the spreadsheet a dot
or identification could pop up for the user.
From there they could place their mouse on the dot and get you windspeed
from the side.

By entering the coordinates they could return to the exact point of their
recording.

Yes #509 hasn't been implemented yet but I think it would be nice to have.

The best thing to do is to open a new issue for this and see what people's thoughts are.

I finally found the location to enter a New Issue.
