Eddiebot: Why the bot detect timezones in the config file only?

Created on 17 Sep 2020  路  10Comments  路  Source: EddieJaoudeCommunity/EddieBot

I think the bot shouldn't be limited to the timezones in the config file, it should detect all timezones and print the time in popular timezones in the config file.

For example it should detect 1 pm UTC+2 or 1 pm eet even though it's not the config file.

I learnt recently that people can DM the bot, I wonder if the reply from the bot is kept quite small, but also includes instructions to DM the bot with a command and a specific timezone they would want, then the bot replies to that DM

Good idea 馃憤

I think we're currently using momentjs. Maybe we can resolve the issue by querying Google's Time Zone API whenever timezone related query takes place.

@Vyvy-vi I think it will still need to be configured to which timezone to convert?

Stale issue message

I'm guessing we still need this so I will reopen and someone can close it if I am mistaken.

Thanks @mikeysan , I think you are correct 馃憤 - I removed the label no-issue-activity also that the Stalebot adds, otherwise it will get closed again next time

(I think we discussed a few ideas about this...)
Since, we can't detect all the timezones(since that would end up displaying a long list), perhaps this could be made into a command(making the conversion intentional, rather than accidental), and perhaps add a few custom features to it(like more args to convert to only one timezone OR some pagination)

I think the command is the best solution to avoid cluttering the channels. Maybe we could use both, the auto-detection with the main timezones, say 1 per continent, and also the command in case someone wants to make the conversion to their specific timezone.
