E107: Issue: Forum Section Visibility

Created on 23 Jun 2017  路  8Comments  路  Source: e107inc/e107

Currently in the Forum plugin, four options for user classes (Visibility, Post Permission, Thread Creation Class, and Moderator(s)).

There seems to be a conflict, the forum is visible to the user class assigned to it - but what about the Moderator(s)? They should also be able to see the forums section as well, since they are moderating the forum, correct?

This could help to get idea how other standard forum works:

Visibility:

  • to all
  • to registered
  • to registered (hidden)
  • private
  • private (hidden)
  • moderators
  • moderators (hidden)

Hidden feature is important and now is missing. It means that if you haven't access, you don't see forum.
Otherwise you see it, but when you try to read it, you got message that you haven't access.

To my knowledge : moderator is not automatically also an approved forum user class ( to divide moderators into accessing forums they are in itself not approved to moderate (ala they are no head admins (userclass itself) and one could want that a moderator does work on 1 forum but may not access or moderate another...) So the moderator for a certain (or all) forums also has to be in the same 'based forum' userclass.

So lets say if I created a user class called Trusted, and I added the user class as a moderator to a forum section that only allows user class Dr Pepper to view, create, and post. The Trsuted user class cannot view that forum section. That's the issue, and I am head admin on the site and I can't see the forum section that is restricted to a user class i am not in.

__in short > userclass> no other userclass. _(edit oops not tested this one; normally following is rule)_
: A user is in userclass .. A moderator( and all other class) is _given/bound to a user_. That mod(class) then set to (a) forum.
A forum has visitors/members etc.. ('hidden' admin/s ;mods) _(edit : if you can add userclass as mod class then the modclass has to be also be part of (Trusted would need 'member alike'setting for DrPepper)_
('eg visual.... looks like a staircase from top to bottom structure with side entrances at a certain step)_

_Answering this will become a help topic, can we move it to e107 help? (if yes please open a question there)
there it is more suitable to deeper explain._

EDIT : testcase (using the case from L.) provides an issue > all edit mode is present (as described above) but not executed.. (using fresh updated system). Needs more investigation..while update acts...., but ends unsuccessfull (eg updated/moderated post is not saved/send/accepted.

EDIT2: (need to add ; dropdown functions work as expected, and DO change when access to other user post/reply...(visual part)) After using one of these the errors (or not functioning) starts. (all seems related to permlist and allowence : here's a small example i run into:

You left required field(s) blank ( edit of first item in thread) ???
huh which one? (title and subject are off limits... also strange)
AND
You are not authorised to edit this forum post. (edit a reply eg update)
(i have mod class)
(these a mod. should be able to influence imo)

I don't know if this is related, but if you are trying to do something with visibility issue, think please too on this: posibility to see forum for everyone (title, description) but seeing what is inside only for registered or class. And if you got link to forum where you haven't access, you are redirect to main forum page without message you have no access to it. Thanks.

Taken into consideration, but when testing moderating i am allowed, class etc...(and thats the weird thing), having those will not help me

Maybe adding an option to add more than just one class on visibility?

That option is present for users, it would (imo) double up the methods. However i can see some benefits if you could permit/deny more classes in 1 go. If it is feasable ????
As for my above post (seems i can get not enough 'lets call them admin' rights to do things...when being a mod)
