When I'm trying to play audio files (I've tried mp3 and wav) in AntennaPod from file manager, I get an "Unknown error" message. It makes impossible to listen for example audiobooks downloaded behind AntennaPod. That's a pity, because AntennaPod could be quite good in these role.
FWIW, I use Voice which is open source and dedicated to audio books. It has a nice aesthetic, uses folder-based organizing, supports playback speed adjustments, and is generally a treat. I also use it for listening to podcasts that I bulk downloaded outside AntennaPod.
Funny! For a few hours before your post I've found by an accident... Voice.:) And I really like it from the first use. The only thing it lacks for me is the possibility to delete a file from it.
Anyway, thank for the hint!:)
I seem to be having the same issue, just now when trying it. IIRC, this (playing local files) should (earlier did) work. Is that correct @mfietz, or am I making up stuff?
If yes, it's a bug and we should debug properly (starting off by filling in the debugging template available when creating a new issue on a pc). If no, this would be a feature request.
I'm also encountering this: when I try to open an MP3 that wasn't downloaded by AntennaPod, I get a popup that simply says "Error: Unknown Error" and the only option is to hit "ok". I don't even know how to troubleshoot this.
PS. @Kamul-PL / @holocronweaver thx for the Voice tip.
@amandabee From where do you try to open the file? (path)
My best guess is that AntennaPod is not allowed to read from the file due to restrictions in Android...
@mfietz I think you're right that my issue was file access restrictions.
@mfietz Do you think it would be possible to indicate in the error message it's a rights issue?
AntennaPod now requests the storage permission when trying to play an external file.
