Zulip-desktop: Windows client crashes shortly after starting

  • Open Zulip on Windows
  • Wait for about half-a-minute
  • Zulip crashes on its own
  • Relevant error messages and/or screenshots:
    I found the following logs on updates.log:

My current version is v2.3.82. Every time I re-open Zulip, the same logs are added to this file, but not any other logs.

Re-installing the app does not solve the issue.

@EpicEric can you also share the error.log. This might be related to a similar report we received at https://chat.zulip.org/#narrow/stream/16-desktop/topic/app.20crashing.

@EpicEric this is related to problems we've been facing with our auto-update process.
As a workaround, can you turn off automatic beta updates and tell us if the problem persists?

@priyank-p Error logs are empty.

@kanishk98 Turning off beta updates prevents the crashes.

Great. We'll be pushing out an update to v3 of the app soon. That'll fix this problem.
I'll let you know here when it's online. You'll need to reinstall the app then.

Hey @EpicEric, zulipchat.com still has to be updated with the latest version of the app, but you can download the latest release from our GitHub page as well here.

Do let us know if you have any problems. Your settings and added organisations will remain unchanged.

@EpicEric please download the latest version v3.0.0 from here. We had a bug in v2.3.82 which broke the auto-update mechanism and this is why the app is crashing. More info here. Let us know if v3.0.0 works for you.
