Yowsup: Auth Error, reason not-authorized

Created on 23 Mar 2016  ·  119Comments  ·  Source: tgalal/yowsup

Nothing changed in several months. suddently, this message appears:

general: Login Failed, reason: not-authorized
Auth Error, reason not-authorized

Anyone knows how to solve this?

Most helpful comment

I really can't find the logic they use, what would be the difference if
using the "official" or non-official ? i believe the service is measured by
how it works, not by what client it works under!!! unless they have
something nasty coming along in the client (like facebook app ... i
uninstalled it because it have a lot of unnecessary permissions and access
to data it should not have!)

If whatsapp (aka facebook) is forcing everyone to use their official client
9oh the nokia and BB don't have features they want ... aka: can't help with
data mining)

I say whatsapp is going down, people will hate it the same way they hate
facebook messenger, facebook just ruining it ... switching to telegram and
to hell with whatsapp

i also have this problem. who can help?

Me too. Help us please!! Tks

1384

Strange issue:
For me one number works after applying PRs.
However, another number still yeilds AuthError: not-authorized - using the
same exact code.
Now, as far as I know this does not mean "blocked" - so why would only one
number act up?

(I'm replying to this rather than to #1384 because it's "closed" - don't
need to add data to a closed issue...)

https://github.com/tgalal/yowsup/issues/1384 not working
neither the uodate for S60 nor Android

Anyone knows how to wireshark this?

confirm, after yesterday reconnect can't login again, even after re-registration, the client isn't pulling secure keys as usual..

Hi,

same issue here, problem started yesterday. rereg doesnt help alsways not-authorized.

Regards X23

Me too! From yesterday I can't login again even after re-registration. This message appears:

general: Login Failed, reason: not-authorized
Auth Error, reason not-authorized

There are so many issues to apply and patch that it is complicated to understand how we get yowsup work again.

Can anyone explain us how to get work again step by step in a easy way?

Hi,

maybe we need to change ENV from S40 (Symbian) permanently to Android instead of only for regis?
Anyone tried to change ENV to Android?

Regards X23

Yes, it works for registration, you get the password and stuff, but once
you try to login you get not authed

Hi,

means u tried to logon both with symbian and android and it does not work?
What a shame i manage 2 soccer groups with the bot, now i have a lot of work to manage them manually again... argh

Regards X23

indeed, tried to login and register with both, tried all possible
combination of env values as well.
the only thing that worked is registration with android, but failed login

Update env_s40 with the token used in #1385 and it works without re-registering.

jlguardi:

I made those changes from 1385 and It doesn't work.

Also, I've downloaded your S40_2.13.39 brach and installed, but it also doesn't work

I'm lost.

INFO:yowsup.common.http.warequest:{"status":"fail","reason":"old_version"}

status: fail
reason: old_version

for me when trying to register. therefore, i think the environment keys have to be updated (?)

Hi,

lets say the env keys have to be updated howto get them? Wireshark?

Regards X23

My fear is that the whole protocol will need update.
I hate whatsapp

I've tried everything you've said but yowsup doesn't work. Still get the auth error.

Can anyone give us a zip file with all the changes already made to install? We're lost!

My bot has also been blocked. I managed to get a new authentication code by updating yowsup´s protocol to the latest commit (you can download a package that includes all needed commits from https://github.com/jlguardi/yowsup/tree/Android_2.12.440 ).

Yet, whenever I try to login using yowsup I get blocked (AuthError: not-authorized).

you can switch to the android environment. it works for me.

works as in registration? or login? or both?

i am not spreading rumors, it works for me. when i write my bot, he reads the message and answers to my requests. what i did was changing from the s40 env to android env as well as changing it in the __init__ of the yowsup cli demo, which i am using.

greetings.

The problem with what you are saying is that i did that already a week ago
and it was working fine until last night.
You might want to check your bot? restart it!

Do i expect any update on this

@k-freeman still working after restart?

Same problem here: Auth Error, reason not-authorized :/
Tried to android env , update env to new nokia settings and nothing work again :/

@x23piracy i tried several changes now, after deleting and recreating my axolotl db my messages were encrypted, even without using encryption. i receive messages, i am able to register, able to send message but not read the decrypted content of the received messages...

Same here. Had to re-register, and the process went well, but now I can't auth:

  File "/home/astx/whatsbot/env/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/yowsup/layers/auth/layer_authentication.py", line 77, in handleFailure
    raise AuthError(nodeEntity.getReason())
yowsup.layers.auth.autherror.AuthError: not-authorized

I've updated both envs with new tokens, and tried both S40 and Android, with no luck.

register with android, login with S40

@rami-dabain that works for you? I don't think so because i never changed env away from symbian, and reregistered today with android device while getting pw with pw.apk.

And i cannot login.

Regards X23

@rami-dabain , please, would you be so kind as to detail the steps you have taken (such as the files and variables changed)? I managed to get it to register, but when using the password provided, it gives me not auth.

after you register, login with the following

got it!
Go to
/yowsup/env/__init__.py
and change:
CURRENT_ENV = S40YowsupEnv() to CURRENT_ENV = AndroidYowsupEnv()`

Hi,

i changed that but i still get not authorized!

Regards X23

@connectnet tried make this change but " Authentication Error: not-authorized" continue :/

@rami-dabain what exactly is the change in #1385 i don't understand?

Regards X23

Hi,

i tried both and in combination changing what @connectnet told us and what @rami-dabain suggested with #1385 but it does not work for me

Regards X23

I changed current env to Android, but the 'ERROR:yowsup.layers.axolotl.layer:No valid sessionsBad Mac!' comming from many contats. Any suggestions?

@eduardobento @yniv Bad Mac can be solved sending a message from this line to the recipient. I'll see for other solution.

Tried the changes from #1385 , #1386 and continue with Authentication Error: not-authorized

@jlguardi we need to think about something automatic that does this, because i have many numbers who get bad mac

@jlguardi also when sending images there's still a problem. i think this is the main cause of the other problems because the message counter in the axolotl gets messed

Hi,

is anyone here whos has it working again and can tell us what exactly is needed for make it run again?

Regards X23

apparently we need to rewrite a lot in the code to make it work, anyone
have wireshark? my linux machine is broken, and macs are not built for this
kind of thing

looks like @mgp25 's chat-api is still working. maybe someone can port the solution from there...

I am also having the same problem

ao executar o comando “yowsup-cli demos -s 55xxxxxxxxxx “teste” -c /etc/zap.conf” trás a saída “Authentication Error: not-authorized”,

Any resolution for auth error

@neeraj360 @x23piracy I managed to fix the auth error by merging most of the past 6 PRs. @jlguardi past fixes were most helpful in that regard. However, after logging in, we still have problems with acks and whatnot. So the problem has not yet been fully solved.

I am now able to login and send messages using the CLI client, but I can't receive any. This is super weird.

Maybe the phone number is shadowbanned of some sort? Other numbers seem to work well.

But I can connect successfully and send messages, it makes no sense...

@cfenollosa enable debug and post logs.

Here it is:

I have many un-acked messages, but I'm not receiving ack requests. Is there some way I can clear that?

Edit: clarification - I didn't get those messages thus I can't sent an ack. However I know the messages exist because I sent them from another phone I control. The result is that I can't receive any messages, but I can send them via the CLI, and I get acks for those. Weird.

Also I get pings, so I don't get disconnected

@cfenollosa @jlguardi I am having the exact same issue.

After changing the /yowsup/env/__init__.py and calling the string with the full path it works fine:
/home/pi/yowsup/yowsup-cli demos -c /home/pi/yowsup/config -s 44123456789 "My Message"

@cfenollosa I cant see the incomming messages!

Yeah, that's exactly the problem. Yowsup can't see the messages for some reason. Can this be a new way of banning people? It strikes me as very weird because it's not blocking me from sending messages

An update,

The number is not banned. I tried to use it with the official client on a cellphone and it works well. So at some point yowsup is failing to receive messages...

I have the same issue on one number, but not on another that is using the exact same library (commented in #1389), so I am guessing it has to do with axolotl layer (or privacy?) rejecting it.

Using old axolotl keys results in dropped messages when changing phones #1044

@giulianopoggi I have tried deleting it many times and it has not fixed the issue.

@Exactly. This is happening only on 1 of my 3 phones, and deleting files does not work

Edit: I also re-registered the phone with a new password and @jlguardi code (s40 env), but no luck

Edit2: At some point I managed to get _some_ messages by disabling Axotl layer on the stack, but this does not work anymore

Edit3: By restoring an old axolotl.db I managed to receive 2 more messages, I am still missing about ~20 more. This is driving me crazy!

No Whatsapp alternate app working currently -Disa is showing same errow auth failed

Ok, every time I log in, Whatsapp sends me 4 read receipts. IN THEORY yowsup is sending an ack for each.

However, on every login, I get the same 4 receipts, which is leading me to think that the acks are not being received, thus Whatsapp is labeling me as a "bad behaving client" and not sending any more data until I can ack their first receipts.

The CLI client is indeed sending the ACK, but it may not be reaching Whatsapp's servers for some reason.

By the way, I'm using @jlguardi latest code. @relima are you using this one too?

TL;DR: It seems that some layer is unable to send ACKs to the Whatsapp servers (or the servers do not understand those ACKs/, so the client is temporarily ignored.

@cfenollosa Yes. we are exactly on the same page.

Here's a fix for the "not-authorized" error:

from yowsup.env.env_s40 import S40YowsupEnv
S40YowsupEnv._VERSION = '2.13.39'
S40YowsupEnv._TOKEN_STRING = 'PdA2DJyKoUrwLw1Bg6EIhzh502dF9noR9uFCllGk{phone}'

But I am experiencing the same bug as @cfenollosa

@relima could you try again? I didn't change anything in the code/libs and I'm now getting this error:

DEBUG:yowsup.layers.logger.layer:tx:

Using @jlguardi's new master branch, I managed to get some of the "missing" messages, but it breaks when receiving an encrypted group message:

  File "/home/astx/whatsbot/env/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/yowsup2-2.4.48-py2.7.egg/yowsup/layers/axolotl/protocolentities/message_encrypted.py", line 24, in setEncProps
    assert encType in "pkmsg", "msg"
AssertionError: msg

Disabling encryption only changes the error for another:

  File "/home/astx/whatsbot/env/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/yowsup2-2.4.48-py2.7.egg/yowsup/layers/protocol_messages/protocolentities/message_text.py", line 38, in fromProtocolTreeNode
    entity.setBody(node.getChild("body").getData())
AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'getData'

Did you manage to solve this, @relima ?

Solucion parcial, modifiquen estos dos archivos:

yowsup/env/env_android.py

_VERSION = "2.12.xxx"

_VERSION = "2.12.510"

/yowsup/env/__init__.py

CURRENT_ENV = S40YowsupEnv()

CURRENT_ENV = AndroidYowsupEnv()

esto por ahora funciona solo para el envio de mensajes con numeros ya registrados.

disfruten!! ;)

Translation of @sowerkoku's statement, dont know why he is not using english when everyone here is working together in a common language to fix this

partial solution, modify these two files:

yowsup / env / env_android.py
#_VERSION = "2.12.xxx"
_VERSION = "2.12.510"

/yowsup/env/__init__.py

CURRENT_ENV = S40YowsupEnv ()

CURRENT_ENV = AndroidYowsupEnv ()

this for now it works only for sending messages with numbers already registered. enjoy !! ;)

@tawanda
just fork https://github.com/jlguardi/yowsup . this version will give you everything except group messages, as they are using a new kind of encryption i think (skmsg and not pkmsg)
greetings

Thanks @k-freeman

is the registration fixed ?

@rami-dabain you can use my branch in a virtual env for registration

git+https://github.com/tawanda/yowsup.git#egg=yowsup

then use

https://github.com/jlguardi/yowsup.git

for sending

is it working? because i have same nokia settings and it gives me
"temporarily un available" after receiving the sms... thats for 20 simcards
... :'(

@rami-dabain i never had to re-register. but i think the registration is working on this branch. let me quickly test it:

$ python2 yowsup-cli registration -C 49 -p 491713636363 -r sms
INFO:yowsup.common.http.warequest:{"status":"sent","length":6,"method":"sms","retry_after":192,"sms_wait":192,"voice_wait":65}

status: sent
retry_after: 192
length: 6
method: sms

seems like it works, but just tried a "random number". however, just use your login credentials from before, works like a charm for me (except group messages of course).

greetings

btw. it does not only depend on the nokia settings from the branch of @jlguardi. check his commits or just fork/clone his repo and use it.

does @jlguardi 's branch fully support regular images?? (not group images)

@yniv not yet but we are in the way. In #1400 we are reporting each step (pls, don't SPAM this issue). We have made work but it isn't still integrated in the yowsup layers (we love to sleep three hours per day ;) )

Kevin equesting an sms works fine, but registering does not. i receive the
sms but cant register it/get the password

@rami-dabain Probably you IP is banned if you are registering 20 lines at de time. Change IP and try again.

I have 12 servers. try only 3 cards from each IP ... i will try again
laster today thanks

@k-freeman

messages will have to go with the " moxie " (disable encryption E2E )

to send group messages should only add the option -M

example:
./yowsup-cli demos -M -c xx.config -y
or
./yowsup-cli demos -M -c xx.config -s phone "message"

Any working solution for this now not-authorized problem now? and why there is a error with it: Implicit declaration of parallel layers in a tuple is deprecated, pass a YowParallelLayer instead

Its working fine ,but getting extra characters in message body

@neeraj360 Thanks so much. May I know which branch is working fine now? How do I deploy?

Hi wayne

i made below changes and its working fine with 2.48

@neeraj360 I tried the method you provided, and also tried reinstalling using Mr. jlguardi's master repo. But still got the same error message: "Implicit declaration of parallel layers in a tuple is deprecated, pass a YowParallelLayer instead"

thanks

paste your stack file here

@chenwayne

tgalal uses the branch. https://github.com/tgalal/yowsup

and make these changes . It should work well.

as easy , it would change the version in the file: yousup/env/env_s40.py
_VERSION = "2.13.39"

another option is, modify these two files:

yowsup/env/env_android.py

_VERSION = "2.12.xxx"

_VERSION = "2.12.510"

/yowsup/env/__init__.py

CURRENT_ENV = S40YowsupEnv ()

CURRENT_ENV = AndroidYowsupEnv ()

this for now it works only for sending messages with numbers already registered.

I dont why i am getting extra charcter in message body

or use:
python setup.py install

This is encryption type pkmsg version 2. Whatsapp has done a new encryption
release.

In yowsup/layers/axolotl/layer.py, change unpadV2Plaintext which is

def unpadV2Plaintext(self, v2plaintext):
if len(v2plaintext) < 128:
return v2plaintext[2:-1]
else: # < 128 * 128
return v2plaintext[3: -1]
to

def unpadV2Plaintext(self, v2plaintext):
end = -ord(v2plaintext[-1]) # length of the left padding
length,consumed = self.decodeInt7bit(v2plaintext[1:])
return v2plaintext[1+consumed:end]

What is the python version you are using?

Clone jlguardi/master or jlguardi/encrypted_media where this parches are applied (master uses s40 and the branch android env)

@jlguardi
On my Raspberry Pi i have done 8 weeks before:
git clone git://github.com/tgalal/yowsup.git
cd yowsup
python setup.py install
This version stops running one week ago (Auth Error, reason not-authorized).
Is this the right way to update this version (android or master, confused)?:
setup fork in remotes sources: git remote add jlguardi https://github.com/jlguardi/yowsup.git
update: git pull jlguardi Android_2.12.440
merge: git merge jlguardi/Android_2.12.440

@horohome Use my master instead which has more improvements.

How is the progress with receiving messages? Is there an update somewhere
what has been fixed yet?

Should I remove the old version before?

@horohome No, just merge.
