Xdrip: Since I installed last nights version, I no longer get data on my watch.

Created on 13 Aug 2018  Â·  36Comments  Â·  Source: NightscoutFoundation/xDrip

I've been using xdrip for more than 3 months and it's always worked fine with my Gear 2 watch, using the Notification feature, meaning every 5 minutes, my G5 sensor reading would display on my watch. A couple of hours ago I updated xdrip+ from roughly a month-old version to last night's, and now I can no longer get xdrip notifications to show up on my Gear 2 watch, thru the Notifications feature. (I reset the watch, and rebooted it a few times, as well as the phone (Samsung S7))

HELP!!!!

All 36 comments

I just reinstalled the 7/15 version, as I'm so upset by the lack of data going to my watch. I'll update this post the moment I see a reading appear on the watch...IT WORKED. it took just a couple of minutes, until the next reading appeared on the phone, and simultaneously, it showed up on my watch.

THEREFORE THE ISSUE IS WITH THE NEWER VERSION. can you figure out what is wrong and fix it, PLEASE?

(I had already tried the Android 8 Notifications feature within xdrip and that didn't solve it, using last night's version. either ON or OFF--no data went to my watch)

Anyone? there is obviously an issue with how notifications are being processed on the most recent versions of the app. I've had similar issues when Wordchums was updated some months ago; no more notifications any any of 5 different devices in our home (2 users; played it for years, and suddenly and update messed up notifications).

As a test, I just installed the 8/14 version. The result is...IT FAILED to send the reading to my watch. C'mon, can someone respond to this issue, please?

Reinstalled the 7/15 version yet again, and data is now being sent to my watch again. So, sometime after that version,Android Notifications function got broken. PLEASE FIX.

Hi, I am new to this project but trying to help where I can.

Are you using a stable version or the nightly builds? I would recommend sticking to a stable build, unless you are willing to experiment with experimental features.

I'm sure the developers appreciate your testing and the feedback, but if you need it working that is my suggestion. Hope this helps!

Nightlies. The 7/15 version works for me.

oh, do u mean the 05/30 release?

I experienced the same. I took the opposite approach and uninstalled the app from my watch and then in the Wear OS app in Advanced, hit Resync apps and then on the watch installed the xDrip app again and bingo! Also got new face designs of the old faces, much better IMO!

that stable release doesn't have the features I need but thx for the link. I'm back to using the 7/15 version.

Is this ever going to be fixed? I'd like to be able to use my watch for xdrip readings AND use a newer-than 7/15 version.

@dave1812 , to work on that normally Logs are needed. If there is a Dev who have time to check the problem, he will need it, because you are the only one up to now with that problem, and maybe a Dev have not your Smartwatch to do tests. Also please understand, that there are more work in the background, and it is not easy to prioritize problems that everybody feels comfortable. Here is everything done in free time.

Did you check in the Samsung Gear App the Notifications-Setting? In that App you can maintain which app are allowed to do notifications on the Smartwatch. If a new version of xDrip is installed, then it could be that you have to re enable it, due to new restrictions of the App. Additionally check please also the notification settings under App-Details of xDrip (longtap icon of xDrip, App-details, Notifications)

How do I get the logs from xdrip?

Press in xDrip upper right the three dots. then Logs. then upload logs.

Did you check the settings which I mentioned?

I will reload one of the newer night least that doesn't work with my watch
and I will recheck for the third or fourth time all of those settings and
let you know but it will be a few hours before I can get back to the house
to do that

Sorry for the typos. I'm using Google transcription. The first sentence is
supposed to say that will recheck all the settings yet again.

I just reinstalled a newer version (one that doesn't work with my watch
notifications--the 10/13 version). Same issue I've stated--no
notifications to my watch. The watch app (Galaxy Wear) allows xDrip to
Notify, the Xdrip app on my phone has ALL notification items turned ON. i
just sent the logs from the app. Does someone have them now?

They should be arrived by @jamorham . Hopefully he (or a other dev which have access to the receiving list) can check it if he finds some time.

Maybe also the problem.could be that the gear-app has problems with the new notificationmodell... But then it will be not easy to find the point behind.

Gee, the Gear watch can display ANY notification I choose, from scores of
apps on my phone. There isn't a one that doesn't work, if I select it to
appear on the watch, but I limit the notifications to a handful. What
(briefly) is the "new notification model" you spoke of?

I just try to reading a little. Maybe the discussion here helps you a little if you could try that way: https://github.com/NightscoutFoundation/xDrip/issues/460

Also on the following Page in the last chapter there is also something mentioned:

I'm trying to keep it simple. I'm not a programmer. xDrip used to work on my Gear 2. It stopped shortly after the 7/15 release. I needed no app to have xDrip show my bg on my watch. Every 5 minutes it showed via the Android Notifications feature. Programmers broke that function right after the 7/15 release and I'd wish they would sort it out. It's not like it never worked.

I sent in the logs many days ago but have heard nothing.

I just installed the 11/02 version and I did get "bg rising fast" message on my Gear 2 watch.
Now for the acid test--will I get the "every 5 minutes" glucose readings...NO! No glucose readings.

If you don't plan on fixing the Android Notifications issue in xDrip, please do me a huge favor, and just tell me. Then I wont waste time checking several times a day on this forum, for an update. Can u do that for me?

I'm pretty sure it's not a willing of not fixing it, just more a lack of time due to other topics with higher priority. But nevertheless, GitHub will notice you if something will going on, except you unsubscribe the issue... So no need to check it dayly.

thanks. Hope springs eternal that the updated version will restore the function.

Aug 13th to today is 116 days. Sounds like you guys have no intentions or fixing your latest versions to work correctly with a tizen watch as your 7/15/18 version works. No one cares but me, apparently. that's a bummer as I'm sure other folks also have tizen watches but don't even know that xdrip could work with them WITHOUT a watch app, but now that you've broken the code, they'll never know what might have been. I'm disgusted.

I am also really upset about this issue and I'm hoping that another voice added will encourage someone to fix it...I do understand that it's not a priority but I had really loved that the static notification shade graph showed on my watch as a notification and now it's gone and I'm really really sad about it.

It has been 140 days since the date of my first complaint. It's pretty obvious, AND MADDENING that the developers don't seem to care enough to FIX SOMETHING THAT USED TO WORK, BUT IS NOW BROKEN. It can't be that difficult to go back to the code in the 7/15 release and figure out what has been broken since then. I don't know how many nightlies were released after that, when the function still worked, but it wasn't too many. I wish they would sell this app to a software company with better resources.

As frustrating as this is, I think that what makes it as good as it is is that it's not made by a software company but by the people who use it. Also, and this is speculation as I don't know the nuances, I doubt any software company could actually make this due to various laws and regulations and all that jazz.

My hope is that more people going "hey, this is a problem" will lead to it being fixed.

You may well be right, regarding laws. I'm not very persuasive, apparently. I told them I doubt many people realize they don't need an app on their android phone in order to see the xDrip data, using the 7/15/18 (or earlier) version. There would surely be a lot more complaints if it was common knowledge that no app is needed, and the newer versions were installed, rendering xDrip useless for watches w/o xdrip app installations. It seems to be such a well-kept secret that only you and I have noticed it and complained on this forum. I'm a firm believer that for every complaint lodged online for anything there are 10-100x more out there with similar problems. Not everyone utilizes feedback forums.

I wasn't actually about to utilize that notification on any other smart watch. It only showed up on the gear for me. That limits the number of people it affects and then you have to have the static notification enabled to have noticed it stayed in your notifications on your watch so I wonder how many people used it. I think most people prefer to have it on the watch face but I'd rather have a fancy watch face that I can change and just scroll to the side for my blood sugar... Which is what I loved about it.

Dave, remember the developers are not getting paid for this, they're doing it out of the goodness of their heart. . It is an open source project and a brilliant one. We are all benefitting from it, so your tone does sound a bit off given the circumstances...

Anyway I mentioned this on the other thread, there are other options for displaying the blood levels on tizen. I use a combination of Tasker and WatchMaker. Not difficult and you can then incorporate the levels on nicer faces (in a more subtle way. I even have a tacky Rolex face with my levels). See my document if interested...

I would love to see this functionality returned to Xdrip. It is wonderful to just put on my Samsung Gear S3 and just have readings appear without any special apps being added to my watch and/or phone. PLEASE, please put it back. Make it an option somehow.

My husband was trying to figure out how to fix it for me but he can't seem to get a signed build to happen. I had so much hope and now I'm super sad again. I'm hoping he'll keep working on it and if he figures it out I'll definitely share but Outlook is not good for it right now. :(

UPDATE: after testing many versions, the 8/5/18 version works with my watch and the next nightly 8/9/18 doesn't work and neither do any versions I've tried up to the most recently nightly of april 2019. the code broke with the 8/9/18 version.
