We should have more helpful title text in the hrefs.
Follow Links
Wherever "Follow" links appear, the link title is currently "Follow." This is less than helpful. Let's change them to "Follow [Site Name]" sitewide. For example: "Follow Laughing Squid". This will especially help when there's some visual distance between the title and the follow link.
If we don't know the site name, use "Follow [URL]". For example: "Follow laughingsquid.com".
For Tag pages, use "Follow [Tag]". For example: "Follow Botany."
Unfollowing Links
Wherever "Following" links appear, the link title is currently "Following." This is bad, since clicking the link is actually UNfollowing. So let's change them to "Unfollow [Site Name]" sitewide. For example: "Unfollow Laughing Squid".
If we don't know the site name, use "Unfollow [URL]". For example: "Unfollow laughingsquid.com".
For Tag pages, use "Unfollow [Tag]". For example: "Unfollow Botany."
Would we truncate really long site titles (e.g. https://wpcalypso.wordpress.com/read/feeds/25320833)?
@bluefuton Yeah, we'd have to.
Still think this is needed, especially as we add more Follow/Following links in more places. How big of a project would this be, @bluefuton?
It's pretty straightforward (a couple of days' work I think). A couple of things we'd need to define are:

Oh geez. I'm sorry. I wasn't clear. I meant "link title" as in "in the href." So, not visible on the page, just showing up on hover as a browser tooltip. Know what I mean?
not visible on the page, just showing up on hover as a browser tooltip
Oh I see! That makes much more sense :)
@bluefuton So, given that, does it become a quicker project?
Probably a similar timeframe because the follow button doesn't currently know anything about the feed or site (including the title) - it just has the site URL. @blowery does your connected follow button work help here at all?
@bluefuton Cool - good to know, thanks.
@blowery Possible to include site/feed/tag titles in the new following stuff?
does your connected follow button work help here at all?
yeah we should be able to grab the follow via the url, then use that to fetch either the site or the feed and get a title off that.
May make that part of #13239
