The account creation and login screens don't appear to be crafted in such a way that trigger saving of credentials by apps like 1Password.

While supporting a single app is probably hard to justify I think the ramifications of fixing it are quite important beyond just 1Password support.
Is it still happening @astralbodies? The Login page went through several iterations recently, and password managers that interact with input fields via HTML should work just fine now.
@stephanethomas I tested it today on my Google Chrome web browser on MacBook Pro, Sierra, and it seems to work as intended - is able to trigger upon signup/login. Just to clarify, 1Password X is their new Google Chrome extension and it's working as expected.
I also tried using the old 1Password extension for Google Chrome. It requires one to have 1Password app installed on their computer too - Mac, Windows or any other OS.
With the Mac app installed, the old 1Password Google Chrome extension also did work as expected. It showed a popup after entering my WordPress.com username and password during the first login.
