Wordpress-seo: Author page link still redirecting to homepage

Created on 14 Mar 2014  路  16Comments  路  Source: Yoast/wordpress-seo

Hopefully I can make this short and sweet for someone who knows how to implement a fix. There is a thread below that has a solution in it - two in fact - I am just wondering if someone can implement that solution to the actual plugin so that it is fixed rather than ongoing as something needing repair and modification.

If I could I would. This problem surfaced over a year ago and is still a bug.

I can confirm that it is still a bug as of today, March 14, 2014 using the latest updates: WP 3.8.1 and plugin version 1.5.2.2.

My example will be a moving target because I am developing a new website and it will move when launched - that said, you can go to this page:

http://designsbytierney.com/new/blog/

and click on the title of any blog post to land on a single-post page, scroll down below the post to the author section and click on the link to view more posts by this author.

Thanks,

@napa-web-designer I've tried, but I cannot reproduce this behaviour. I'll outline the steps I've taken, please adjust them to show me how I can reproduce the issue.

  1. WPSEO -> Titles & metas -> Other -> checked the 'Turn author archives off' checkbox
  2. Went to a post, clicked on author link and was redirected to the homepage
  3. WPSEO -> Titles & metas -> Other -> _un_checked the 'Turn author archives off' checkbox
  4. Went to a post, clicked on author link and was send to the author page

Tried the above a couple of times and it continues to work as designed and expected.

Thanks for checking it out @jrfnl. It is acting up on my website right now. I won't have time to look into it until mid next week to see if I can narrow down exactly what seems to be the deciding factors on duplicating it. I'll try to do that and respond back.

Hi @jrfnl,

Would it work if I gave you the backup file from my Canvas settings? I went to Canvas>Backup Settings and selected All Settings and downloaded the file. It is here:

http://designsbytierney.com/woothemes-backup-20140313-021806.json

That way you would have a duplication of the settings that create it for me. If that does not do it, then it must also be a conflict with another plugin of mine.

@napa-web-designer Sorry, no, this is a place for bug reports only, not support. If you want support, you can either buy the Premium version of the plugin or hire someone.

Try & see if the functionality works if you change the theme to Twenty-Fourteen. If it does, the problem is your theme, not WPSEO.

If it doesn't, next try & see if it works with all other plugins deactivated. If it does, the problem is with one of the other plugins, not WPSEO. Try to activate them one by one & test after each activation to find out which one is the culprit.

No sweat. My intent is not to get my website fixed. I have a fix that will work for me.

I just recognized that this seems to have been a problem for over a year and noticed it still was on my site and in gratitude for the great plugin wanted to support helping this one thing get fixed by sharing my site in such a way as an example of it not working.

If I have time next week to test it out in WP default with no plugins I will and will let you know.

Either way. Thanks. Cheers.

I appreciate your intent, but you will understand that looking at any one site for a bug is considered support, especially as the described behaviour is not reproducable on a plain install and no other reports of the same have come in.

I'd be interested to hear your findings next week.

I totally understand what you are saying, agree wholeheartedly and am also embarrassed to realize what I did.

I did discover this problem as I was working on my own site and originally looked to see if it was connected with the theme framework I was working with (woothemes canvas theme) and then found the year old WP forums post for the SEO plugin (indicated above) and have assumed it was the same problem because it is very unique and specific. So I followed the advice on the plugin's website saying that if I found a bug to report it here - and from that thread I read which looked like an unfixed bug that I was still experiencing - I chose to post it here.

Then I thought it would be helpful if I shared my settings for the SEO plugin if there was an export file for that, and, for some reason (healing brain from a recent auto accident - or - not enough sleep), I ended up sharing the setting for my theme settings - which naturally made it look like I was asking for help with my theme.

Anyways - my mistake. My appology. If I have time to test out the SEO settings on a fresh install I will and will share it here. Either way, have a good weekend.

No worries, all is good. Looking forward to your findings.

I've looked at the referenced thread, I know where the bug came from but this is definitely something that should have been fixed by the 1.5 upgrade... Do be aware when you're testing this that it's a 301 redirect and your browser caches these _very_ aggressively, so preferably test with several different author URLs. Closing for now as I think it's fixed ( I can't reproduce either ) but by all means please do reopen if you find that it's not.

@design2dev please open a new issue. You're commenting on an issue that's almost 3 years old and is already closed. Could you please share any information you know, in this issue? https://github.com/Yoast/wordpress-seo/issues/6547 Thanks.

@design2dev Same problem in 4.3 but your given solution worked.

@design2dev thank you for the solution.

path in v.5.7
SEO -> Titles & metas -> Archives -> Author archives

@design2dev and @yauhenrymasheuski - Thanks! Saved me energy and time :D

I have this problem as well. When you say "SEO -> Titles & metas -> Archives -> Author archives" do you mean Yoast SEO?
