Wordpress-android: Tapping Like in emails does't like a post (sometimes)

Created on 16 Mar 2018  路  6Comments  路  Source: wordpress-mobile/WordPress-Android

I couldn't reliably replicate this even though I did see it a couple of times before. But it happened to me again today in the morning. When I tried to like a post from an email, the app opens up but the like doesn't go through. Going back and repeating did, though and it worked afterwards.

It seems that when the WordPress app is in the background the Intent data doesn't get passed to the app the first time. The weird thing is that I couldn't replicate it by killing the app or using "Don't keep activities" option.

I tested with Pixel, Android 8.1.0, WPAndroid alpha-103 and I can reproduce the problem if I click the like button in the email while authenticated in the app as a user other then the one matching the email.

My steps to reproduce:

  1. Subscribe to a test site by email.
  2. Make sure My Sites > Sharing > Sharing Buttons > "Show like button" is checked and saved.
  3. Go to My Sites > Blog Posts > Add.
  4. Add a title and content.
  5. Make sure Post Settings > Sharing > "Show Like Button" is checked and publish the post.
  6. Open WPAndroid and log in as a user other than the user from step 1.
  7. Kill the app.
  8. Open the "[New post]" email generated by the post published using an Android device.
  9. Click the "Like" button in the email.
  10. If prompted, select the option open the post in the app.
  11. Check to see whether the like action worked.

Result: the like action fails silently if I tap like from an email other than the one currently logged in to the app. [[screenshots](https://cloudup.com/cCGi6PX9-1Z)]

For example, if I log in to the app as [email protected] and click on the "Like" button in an email sent to [email protected] then the like action fails silently. If I log in to the app as [email protected] and tap the "Like" button in an email sent to [email protected] then the like works.

Could this match your use case? It might be more common for people who often log in to the app as different users for testing purposes (that's me for sure! lol).

FYI @hypest

This is not my use case. I rarely login with different users and I've observed the issue when I tried to like P2 posts with my primary account. But I wonder if it could be caused by the fact that main email address in my WP account is a gmail address but I get the subscription emails in my A8C address.

Looping back to take another look at this one!

@0nko are you sure those aren't two separate accounts? I feel like the emails I am thinking of (blog subscriptions for new posts) always go to the email address for the account, so if you subscribed as one email address then you should receive the email at that address. Could you maybe step back a little and let me know some steps for how to test this from your perspective including how to sign up for the emails you're receiving and what types of emails they are (subject lines or screenshots could help a lot).
