That's not true. I run multiple old games, incl. NFS Carbon and even NFS U2 on Windows 10.

I also have these games from the disc.

Let me disagree. If game natively supports certain OS, it should stay to do it just for ideological reasons. People just may have a retro system for oldschool gaming, and "2019" is not strong argument. Widescreen fixes often have useful patches and improvements for games themselves, that Windows XP users can't see just because WS fixes don't support Windows XP.

Let me guess: Windows 7 will be dropped too, if it's official support will end (in 2020), and no matter that 25% of people still uses it? In fact, OS lives while there are live users on it, and compatible software has been released. And I don't think the backward compatibility is such a big trouble technically.

When you choose to use software or hardware that was released almost 20 years ago, you accept all the burdens that come with it. It's no one's responsibility but your own. I assume most people who engage in retro gaming would understand this.

This is not comparable because Windows 7 wouldn't be nearly as old (almost a decade difference), many products still support it, and there are a lot people that still use it. I'm not sure how reliable this information is, but look at the market share. Most people are either using Windows 10 or Windows 7.
