Operating System: Linux
Tested Another Browser: Yes
Problem type: Something else
Description: Firefox tab shortcuts (Alt-1..9) change current time on YouTube
Steps to Reproduce:
Until around November, I was able to change to another FIrefox tab by pressing Alt-1..9. This still works now, but the player also changes the current time (e.g. 3 goes to 30%), just like when pressing only digits.
Firefox before November, Chrome:
Firefox after November:
Also happens with Firefox 63 (release), so this might be a change on YouTube's side.

Anybody else with this issue?
Still happens for me in latest Nightly. It was also reported by someone else here.
Ah ok, I'm on regular so I guess if it's not fixed in Nightly it wouldn't be fixed for me either. Not sure how to bring additional attention to this issue.
Thanks for the report @lnicola, but I'm not able to reproduce the issue.
For me Alt-3 only changes tab without modifying the progress indicator of the player to 30%, that only happens if I click 3. The same behavior is present on Chrome too.
Also on Windows using Ctrl-3 changes tabs without modifying the progress indicator of the player to 30%.
Tested with:
Browser / Version: Firefox Nightly 66.0a1 (2018-12-12)
Operating System: Linux Ubuntu 16.04
@lnicola or @676339784 , can you still reproduce it? It there something else you are doing?
Could you try clearing cache/data/cookies, disable Ad-blocker (if available), or use a clean profile (about:profiles), and check again?
Hey @softvision-oana-arbuzov,
I restarted Firefox under safe mode, which should isolate the issue from add-ons at least, but the issue persists. I'm on FF 64.0 running on Arch Linux.
Thanks @676339784 , I've manage to find an Arch Linux and the issue is indeed reproducible.
The behavior is not encountered on Chrome 66.0.3359.181.
Tested with:
Browser / Version: Firefox Nightly 66.0a1 (2018-12-12)
Operating System: Arch Linux 4.14.3-1-ARCH
Moving to Needsdiagnosis for further investigation.
Wait, this is getting strange. I'm on Arch Linux myself (running the AUR Nightly package, which is a Mozilla build), but I can't reproduce the issue in a new profile.
@676339784 can you try that? You can run firefox --no-remote -P and follow from there.
@lnicola Assuming I did it right (some pop-up came up and I just click start Firefox), the issue is still there
@676339784 you have to click "Create Profile", "Next", "Finish", select the new one if it isn't already selected, make sure the two check boxes are unchecked, then click "Start".
@lnicola Yep, issue is no longer there!
Indeed, after creating a clean profile the issue is no longer reproducible.
Also checked while being logged into the YouTube account and it is not reproducible.
I'll close the issue.
@676339784 do you have the YouTube classic add-on? I can reproduce the issue in a new profile after installing it, even after I disable the add-on. In my old profile, disabling the add-on and loading YouTube in a Private Browsing window fixes the issue.
I assume the add-on is setting a cookie or something similar to ask Google for the old version, and it stays after disabling it. The issue is on YouTube's side, but only affects the classic UI, which I would assume is unsupported.
So the only fix might be to remove the add-on and choose "clear site data" to reset the cookies. The new UI is still laggy in Firefox, but such is life.
@lnicola I do have the YouTube classic add-on. Just removed it and it works just as you've said. Thanks again!
Thanks @lnicola for your investigation, that is useful info for anyone that experiences the issue.
