Waveboxapp: Global shortcut for "Focus the app" doesn't work

Hi there,

setting global keyboard shortcut to focus application seems not working. For example, I set "ALT+1" in "Focus the app" setting, with "Global" in the dropdown menu at right. 99% of times, this doesn't work (1% yes o_O). Tried other letter combinations, same behavior.

Instead, "Switch to group 1" shortcut seems to work (globally); if I try to use this working shortcut combination for "Focus the app", it doesn't work. It seems related to "Focus the app" (that I prefer cause return me to the last used group).

Thanks.

Edit: set back "Ctrl + Shift + 1" (Global) to "Switch to group in position 1" and doesn't work anymore.

Sounds inconsistent behavior on my system.

Thanks. We're working on a fix for this :)

Hi there,

not working with 10.0.104 either:

It's not the desired behaviour for this, but if you set it and then restart the app does it work?

Seems it works for one time only...

I've just pushed a bunch of fixes out for this on the beta channel in version 10.0.109 :)

I can't be a tester cause I maintain the Chocolatey package, so I follow the stable release only, but I'm glad to know. Thanks.

Thomas, in my new 10.0.121.2 it doesn't work at all, like previous.

Global shortcuts seems not grabbed.

Weird, it seems to be working here. Is Wavebox running in the background somewhere? Have you tried reassigning the shortcuts?

Oh, now it's clear! I have always Wavebox window minimized (not closed to tray), so shortcut doesn't work. If I close to tray, it works.

At this point I'm not sure about "focus, toggle, ecc.": can you clarify me? Moreover, is there a way to focus Wavebox with a shortcut if it is simply under other windows?

Many thanks as always.

Thomas, I've noticed that when I receive Gmail notifications, clicking on them doesn't raise up Wavebox (but I always have it opened under other windows, not closed to tray).

Maybe related to "focus issue"?

Thanks.

I confirm that shortcut issue is related to window position/status. If already opened under other windows, Wavebox is not raise up in front of others with shortcut, but it works only if it's closed to tray.

Moreover, when restored with the shortcut, window is automatically resized and not maximized like was before.

Global shortcut

I'm having some real trouble reproduce any of the global shortcut cases. This is what I've tried,

  • Set focus app as ALT+1
  • Minimize Wavebox, press ALT+1
  • Hide Wavebox to tray, press ALT+1
  • Move Wavebox behind another window, press ALT+1
  • Change virtual desktop, press ALT+1
...all seem to open as expected. Are you using any window management apps or global shortcut managers which could be a case of interference?

Gmail notifications

Gmail notifications, clicking the notification for me always restores regardless of which state the app is in. With this one, does Wavebox switch to Gmail or does it just do nothing whatsoever?

Because of the way Windows works, you need to have the Wavebox shortcut present in the start menu, otherwise, Windows doesn't pass call across from the notification centre to the app. If Wavebox changes to the correct app, then it would suggest this part of the call is succeeding and there's something else with the focusing, otherwise, it could be that the IPC calls are not being passed.

Restore

Just to double-check this case, Wavebox is already running in maximized state. You double click the shortcut to launch it again and it opens the window back up, but not in a maximized state.

I'll take a look into this, it does look like a bug

Thomas, I think I tracked back the real issue (confirmed by your last paragraph). I'm using DisplayFusion to manage windows positioning and size. For Wavebox, I have a trigger to move the window on the second monitor in always maximized state.

Now, tricking with it, I discovered that the issue seems to be the maximized status of Wavebox window. If is not maximized when it goes under other windows, shortcuts work perfectly. As soon as I set it to maximum, shortcuts not work anymore. This behaviour is the same even with DiplayFusion trigger disabled.

Hope that can help.

P.S. If you can solve the issue to save maximized state of the window, I can avoid this DisplayFusion trigger and use "move to second monitor" only (many other apps have this issue too).

The same with "focus the app" and "toggle the app", for which I'm not sure to have understood the meaning.

P.S. Exit Wavebox and restart it is mandatory to have shortcuts mapped on my system. If intended, maybe worth warn the user.

Any updates?
