Hi, im getting invalid password, when i tried to recover my wallet using the recovery words and the password, the wallet is empty. im 100% sure is the right password since i`ve used it few days ago
Im using OSX 10.14.4 , steps
did a git pull, build and run, and got invalid password when tried to send, tried to recover wallet in a PC walllet came empty, no history, nothing.
Let me check if I understand it correctly:
git pull (did you mix/spent before using the password, right?)git pull you started to get an _Invalid password_ error messageHow do you enter your password [manually or copying & pasting it]?
Do you get any warning message before?
Can you see anything relevant in the Logs.txt file?
Is your password longer than 100 characters? Is it generated by a password management tool?
1 - Yes
2 - Previous version, but not from code.
3 - Yes, didn`t tried to use it today before the pull, yes.
4 - Yes.
Manually.
On wasabi GUI no warnings, two on logs
First after loading wallet ->
System.AggregateException: A Task's exception(s) were not observed either by Waiting on the Task or accessing its Exception property. As a result, the unobserved exception was rethrown by the finalizer thread. (The peer has been disconnected) ---> System.OperationCanceledException: The peer has been disconnected
--- End of inner exception stack trace ---
---> (Inner Exception #0) System.OperationCanceledException: The peer has been disconnected<---
After typing password ->
System.Security.SecurityException: Invalid password. ---> System.Security.SecurityException: Invalid password (or invalid Network)

39 characters, is a "word" repeated 3 times
Could you share here your $HOME/.walletwasabi/client/Config.json please? I want to see the network you are using.

My recoverd("1") wallet has different .json from the original("0"). but if i do the recover on another computer("2"), ("1") and ("2") are the same.
Could you try to open your wallet using the Wasabi version that you used to create your original wallet file? If you do not remember the version then try with 1.1.6.
Yes, my first log line is 2019-04-17 16:05:18 INFO Config: Config file did not exist.
I will try 1.1.3
didnot work, wrong password. Tried to recover on 1.1.3, wallet is empty.
Could this be a network problem? im stunned on how is this happening.
My recoverd wallet does not have the BlockchainState Object on json.
the word "mom" is on my seed, but it does not appear on the autocomplete, even short words as "ice" apppears.
Sorry, miss click, i found a backup original("0") wallet, is exactly the same, only outdated. still wrong password. could my settings be overwritten(server-side) somehow? what would happen if i typed the mnemonics with wrong password?
what would happen if i typed the mnemonics with wrong password?
If you do that you will get a completely different wallet.
When you do a recover do you see your history and your balance?
i dont see any, is not my first time recovering this wallet, i used to have it on Windows, then i did a recovery on OSX, after that i did recovery on another Windows.
Can someone say if such a thing is possible? Im 1000% sure this is my password since i`ve used it so many times on wasabi, last time was 6 days ago, but even with "findpassword" i only get wrong password.
This is what we have so far:
Based on the history of transactions, when was the last time you spent/mix a coin?
Are you sure your wallet has the password that you think it has? Have you tried with no password password?
last time i spent was on 2019-09-10.
Yes im pretty sure because ive never copied/pasted this password, and ive made 10 coinjoins and several transactions with this wallet on different OS. Ive tried with no password no success.
about the word "mom" missing from autocomplete, can that say anything when i try to recover my wallet?
If you type mo do you see the word mom among the suggested words?
What about the derivation path (account key path), did you use the default one?
If you type
modo you see the wordmomamong the suggested words?
no, only 'moment'

Yes.

no, only 'moment'
That is strange.

Hi @mstedler,
With the information, you provided I am sure that we can help you to recover your wallet, don't worry we are here to help. I would start with the following.
You mentioned that you have a wallet file. Create a copy of that file to have the original one in safe!
Sorry, miss click, i found a backup original("0") wallet, is exactly the same, only outdated. still wrong password. could my settings be overwritten(server-side) somehow? what would happen if i typed the mnemonics with wrong password?
With the backed up wallet json file, we are eliminating the possible errors with the mnemonics. Your secret key is in that file, it is just encrypted with your password. So please make sure that file belongs to the correct wallet with that password you remember.
If it is not working you should do the same on OSX if you can. You mentioned that you never used copy/paste. It is important because on OSX we had a bug with copy/pasting before 1.1.7 so please confirm this too.
Anyway if you have the wallet file and it was working with a specific version and you know the password it must be working there is no such thing as a "server-side settings" - and we will find out how.
Hey, thanks for your help.
No success.
100% sure this is my wallet and the password is correct because i use it on some of my accounts.
never copy/paste, its a simple 13 char long word repeated 3 times
I generated my wallet on v.1.1.3 on Windows.
Then i did a recovery on OSX using v1.1.3 using .dmg
then i upgraded to v.1.1.4 on OSX.
on v.1.1.5 i started to use code and i have been using it since then.
i did 5 transactions this month, last time was 09-10.
yesterday i did a pull, build, run. and then the password was wrong.
switched to windows using code, did not pull, just tried password and was wrong.
my original wallet does not have AccountKeyPath object, the minGapLimit is 21.
could somehow the EncryptedSecret have been strangely created on v1.1.3? im asking this because i have written the mnemonics on paper and the word "mom" does not appears on autocomplete.
when i recover now, even on v1.1.3 i get different(comparing to original) EncryptedSecret for the same words and password.
i tried using wasabeed/findpassword with wallet and EncryptedSecret. does it show some erros on password even if i put some capital letters in it? i only get the password is wrong.
After many attempts i managed to work it out.
i started trying many passwords combinations and a variance from the wrong(still cant believe) password worked.
It seems that was my fault, sorry taking your time.
i could not find a address where i can make a donation to the project.
Thanks for your patience.
This reads like a thriller!!
Glad that everything is solved now and your sats are safu.
But @mstedler, in this thread you have revealed some rather sensitive information, for example that your password is a simple 13 char long word repeated 3 times, when your first log line is 2019-04-17 16:05:18 and the last time i spent was on 2019-09-10.
Please keep this in mind and be careful here, this might reveal that you are part of wasabi coin joins in between these dates. Especially now that we all know this detail about your password, I would very much recommend to generate a new wallet with a new strong password.
There is no donation address to the project, but the zkSnacks company earns revenue by your CoinJoins, and that pays developers, so if you feel extra generous, consider to re-mix some of your coins, both for the sake of your privacy and to support future development :)
i could not find a address where i can make a donation to the project.
