Following the discovery of yet another exploit that allows you to contain a delaminating shard with zero risk, I've come to the personal conclusion that the SME is the most babby-tier engine in the game, surpassing even the AME, which can actually explode if you are retarded, unlike the shard
Current methods to completely neutralize a delaminating shard at any stage and with any level of setup fuck-up include :
This turns the Supermatter Shard into a zero-risk engine as long as there is a Cyborg anywhere on the station, as he can rush to space or RCD the shard. And with the new exploit, literally ANYONE can run up to the shard and dump it back into its box before radiation can even collapse them once
Meanwhile :
It's high time to stop enabling shitty Engineers. If you are incapable of building a loop that siphons all air in the chamber, cools it, filters the plasma and re-injects it, you don't deserve to set up this engine
Potential ideas to fix this shit :
Done, now are we going to enable shit Engineering, or have the Engineers set up the Solars or the Singularity as they used to if they were shit at everything like a year back ?
All this shit about making engineering no longer casual, and nobody updates the wiki on their changes.
The TEG setup on the wiki is still from before it was unfucked and buffed
well shit dylan i wonder why all the other engines are shit compared to the super matter crystal/shard
Putting it back into its crate. It's a thing now, and it works without a hitch
How? That's an exploit, the intended behavior of the crate is to not take a delaminating shard.
Oh boy dylan wants to rebalance engineering to make it harder for new players, so that even more people will be scared to play engineering.
I love having rounds with no power.
@FudgePucker new players all use the singulo or AME.
@dylanstrategie
I explicitly made it not accept a shard with any delamination damage whatsoever. Are you just bullshitting?
@clusterfack
Check to see if its a bug.
If it doesn't close on a damaged shard close this issue because dylan is bullshitting again to try to pass balance changes.
If it does close on a damaged shard fix it... then close this issue because dylan is trying to make balance changes again.
I'd be up for a balance change as long as Dylan doesn't code it.
I agree we need to balance it.
One thing to DEFINETLY remove is the ability to just drag the SME onto a space tile and be done with it.
One needs to take into account, however, that if the shard can't be quickly cooled via space, any damage to its cooling loop would essentially guarantee delamination. The engineers may not be able to fix the damage to the loop fast enough to cool the shard back down before it explodes.
Could always add a method of shard ejection to the system... Two doors open (one from the chamber, one into space) and the mass driver the shard is placed on gets thrown into deep space. That would at least solve problems relating to a hopelessly delaminating core and would only require minor modification to the existing setup. The only unfortunate thing is that the main room itself would depressurize, but we are talking about an easily fixed problem (depressurization) vs. rebuilding a sizable chunk of engineering and a round-ending explosive event. As far as how to get the whole thing to not be a clusterfuck of randos running in and ejecting the core all willy-nilly, finding a way to ID-lock the ejection mechanism would be preferable.
As soon as an ejection system is in place, there are alternative ways of cooling the shard (secondary nitrogen emergency loops or flooding the chamber with room-temperature gas from distribution) which can be handled from the atmosphere automation computers.
As someone who messes with the SME a lot, I will say that the SME as it stands really is too babyish and needs a rebalance given its ability to produce major power with very few consequences (unless you are a qt3.14 MoMMI and convince the MoMMI Gods to grant you a full crystal, at which point consequences will never be the same and even then you're not flirting with too much disaster at present).
Could put a mass driver on the center tile of the chamber and a disposal inlet to its immediate right.
Button in the CE's office triggers the mass driver, it shoves the shard into the disposal inlet, shard gets launched into deep space.
@Shadowmech88 see the thing is 99% of times the damage to the chamber is antag sabotage, so I'm 100% fine with that possibility being there.
What else damages that isolated room? meteors? Shame on the engineers for not fixing it then.
I suggest we make an ejection system that fires it into the singularity for funsies
@clusterfack we need that as an in joke, but it should need some setup to be made functional so AIs can't singuloose with ease.
Since that can EASILY ruin a round in the hands of a player, I'd prefer it be adminbus-only.
And at that point we can just teleport or buildmode move the shard
dylan why
