What Happend :
Nothing. No GUI. Executable kept running until I did CTRL + C.

What's Supposed to happen :
Start a GUI I think.

I think you're hitting this problem: https://github.com/transmission-remote-gui/transgui/issues/1220 try clearing your clipboard then relaunching.

I couldn't fix it until I got tired and installed transgui-qt (AUR). But of course the correct would be to solve ...

I have the same problem with a fresh Opensuse Tumbleweed install. Clearing the clipboard does not help. The program starts, it creates an empty ini file, produces the error messages described in the original report and nothing else. There is an empty icon in the tray, but it does not react and no GUI shown at all.
Previously it was working fine, it got broken after system reinstall. Maybe some dependency issue?

I'm using Arch Linux and got same problem.
I decided to try to build a project from source and as a result, a freshly compiled program works as before.

I checked the package makefile in aur and it hadn't change recently nor have any one the dependencies.

same problem. tried both transgui-gtk and transgui-qt in arch aur, no gui is shown. strace shows this

Same issue following upgrade to Ubuntu 19.10. Was fine under 19.04

The same issue. Ubuntu 19.10 TRGUI 5.18 and early releases - don't work. No GUI.
apt install libcanberra-gtk-module libssl-dev didn't help.

Same here. Before 19.10 it worked fine, but now... Empty tray icon, no main GUI, does nothing, only shows this Gtk-CRITICAL message in the terminal.

Ok, I compiled from the sources. Now it starts, but still no tray icon. Better than nothing.

Had this issue in Ubuntu, was initially running the package supplied in the distro's repo (5.0.1). None of the newer releases worked when I downloaded the tar files and tried running them. Same issues as above.

Finally found this ppa:
https://launchpad.net/~andreas-noteng/+archive/ubuntu/transgui

Works fine, although it's at 5.17 and not 5.18.

This is caused by both Arch and Ubuntu 19.10 using GTK3. The only workaround is to recompile from source, the builds provided by the project will not work on these distributions.
