Toggl-button: Safari Extension

I would like to see it in Safari. This extension looks so useful. I know that Safari charges to host extensions, it is so bad, but if it is possible, I would be happy :)

Thank you for your input. We will take this under consideration but not in near future. We are currently focusing porting the extension for Firefox.

Sadly this is not in our near future plans. I'll leave it open as we might take another look once the Firefox version is working as well as Chrome version.

I see that @IndrekV indicated this is not in near future plans in late 2016. However, can we place any hope in the enhancement label being added recently? Or is this still not in the cards anytime soon?

I understand that Chrome's user base is massive but no amount of extensions could make me use Chrome instead of Safari on a Mac. The single reason I don't use Toggl is that there's no Safari extension so it won't work in my favourite project management tools.
Please re-consider building one, many Mac users I know are faithful Safari users.

Come on! I cant believe Safari is not supported, the RAM eater (Chrome) is not serious on macOS and supporting Safari is an easy task... I've made several browser extensions for Safari/Chrome and you just need a few "if" so far!

Someone said up there, "Safari charges to host extensions" but you charge me for the service, so money should be not a problem. As a premium user I want the extension for my browser. I am not saying any browser, I am saying Safari...

Safari is the most optimised browser in terms of power consumption. It would be great to have toggl integration for Safari.

Hey just wanted to drop some news about our plans.

We are planning to revamp the extension (without breaking the existing integrations) to improve both the performance and development speed of toggl-button.

• officially a Safari version of the extension is not a planned feature, in our Q1 plans as it requires a significant amount of change in the codebase.
• unofficially in our Q1 improvements we will update the core extension code to be more portable, so that support other browsers is easier that it is at the moment.
• also unofficially I'm working to port the base extension (timer popup) to Safari

Forget about this extension, they haven't been able to add 100 lines of javascript for Safari, but you expect them to create a Swift-based extension? Now the extension should be delivered within the desktop app, that's not going to happen at all! Surprise me Toggl...

Does Apple's new tool to convert existing extensions to a Safari web extension help at all?

After running the tool I got this message:

Warning: The following keys in your manifest.json are not supported by your
current version of Safari. If these are critical to your extension, you
should review your code to see if you need to make changes to support Safari:

notifications

I assume at least one of these permissions causes issues because although I got the extension to build and show up in Safari, it's not functional.

I'd really like to see this extension working in Safari!

🤷‍♂️ @jrickett can you provide any detail? for me it's often a cookie/tracker blocker that breaks things but the extension worked for me without any problems.

I clicked the extension in Safari and initially tried logging in using Google. Also tried using email and Sign in with Apple. I tried changing relevant settings in Safari preferences, but couldn't get anything to work.

I probably went about this the really difficult way, but I ended up using Proxyman to inspect the requests and saw that the request to https://track.toggl.com/api/v8/me?with_related_data=true was failing. There were some other requests to the toggl api that were succeeding that had contained more cookies, so I copied those, intercepted the next failing request and replaced the cookies and it worked!

Not sure if this is just a temporary fix that will break at some point, and there must be some setting that I could have just changed, but this worked and I'm happy I don't have to open up Chrome to start a Toggl entry anymore 😃.
