Thegreatsuspender: Allow Google Analytics to be switched off

I would like to have the option to switch off your use of Google Analytics.

There is no mention of the fact that my use of the extension is tracked and there is currently no way to opt out of being tracked.

I should note that I stopped using the published extension some time ago. Since I raised this privacy issue 3 years ago, the developer has made no effort to prevent or stop or allow the disabling of tracking. In fact, he has actually increased the amount done by the extension!

In lieu of an actual fix, my solution instead has been to clone the repo, gut the tracking and run it as a local extension. If you don't know how to clone, modify and then run it locally, then the right thing to do would be to pester the dev to do it, or submit a PR.

At the very least there should be an opt-in approach where debugging information is stored locally until there's a problem, at which point a sanitised log can be sent to the developer.

This is a fair request. To clarify, information is only passed up once, on extension restart (install/upgrade etc) and it only passes up version number, and the value for some of the options (time to suspend, auto unsuspend etc).
To be honest, I haven't found the analytics all that useful so may just scrap it altogether. But allowing users to opt-out is a fair call. I'll try to implement this soon.

+1 for scraping it altogether.

This issue has been automatically marked as stale because it has not had recent activity. It will be closed in 30 days if no further activity occurs. Thank you for your contributions.

+1 to removing GA or adding opt-out capability _before_ stalebot closes this 馃

+1 to @DanAtkinson's comment. I learned about this from a colleague and was quite disappointed to learn this information is getting sent to Google Analytics.
