Same issue for me -- moving latest Telegram (1.7.3 as of now) on OSX Mojave 10.14.5 from primary to secondaty monitor make it flicker on every mouse move above the Telegram window. Like window.onmousemove = () => window.flicker().

And yes, resize resolves the issue.

What device do you use?

This happens on a 2018 15" MBP. I can reproduce this by dragging the telegram window onto a secondary screen, then dragging it back to the laptop screen.

Also worth noting that the Close, minimise and maximise buttons disappear when the window is inactive after dragging to a secondary monitor.

It flickers in time with the text cursor blinking. No flickering occurs when there are no active text fields. One way this can be achieved is by opening settings.

As already stated, the problem resolves itself after completely restarting telegram.

MacBook Pro 13-inch 2017

I have the same issue... Any progress on this? MacBook Pro 13 Inch early 2017 and using an LG screen as a second monitor - the flickering happens on both my mac and my LG screen

I have same issue too. Im using macbook pro 15 early 2015

I have the same issue.
I have a MacBook Pro Mid-2014 running macOS Mojave Version 10.14.4

When I connect to an external display and try to drag Telegram to the new display. Telegram is blacked out.
On my primary display there is a slight flicker in assets like the Avatars and other images.
This issue goes away when I restart Telegram with the secondary display connected.

I'm using a display port adapter connected to a VGA Dell Monitor.

I've similar issue on imac 4k. It mostly happens on main screen but sometimes also on external ones.

Same issue, Mojave 10.14.4, MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014), moving mouse over Telegram app produces flickering. Yet when I just resized the Telegram window it's not happening now. I move it around, nothing. I close it an open it again, still no flickering. So I drag it off to a second screen and the flickering is back. Drag it back to the primary screen and flickering is still there. Resize the window and its gone.

Update. This issue does not seem to affect me on the flowing configuration:

Operating System: macOS Mojave 10.14.5 (18F132)
Version of Telegram Desktop: 1.7

I have the same issue on MBP 2018 13' with touchbar.
Here is a video of the problem:

@askoretskiy Hopes for 10.15 :/

Same here with Telegram 1.7.3 (latest of now) and OS X 10.14.4 (18E226)... Not sure why and how and when this appeared, but is getting quite annoying lately. The only temporal workaround i've found is to disable all animations in Telegram - this way it only flickers when i move mouse on top of the application window...

@maxkuzkin I hope 10.15 will fix that. Did you try updating to 10.14.5?

@john-preston, i've installed 10.14.5 (18F132) overnight and after reboot the issue indeed does NOT reproduce... Not sure if it fixed it or the reboot temporarily hidden it - will keep you posted here. Telegram Desktop is the best desktop messenger i ever used, would be great to not have that flickering anymore! :)

No, unfortunately, after 1-2 days of work the issue is back, just like before... 10.14.5 (18F132) doesn't fix the problem.

Yes, this started happening to me again. 10.14.5 did not fix it.

I have the same issue also on Macbook Pro 13 early 2013 with macOS Mojave 10.14.4 and Telegram 1.7.7.

I've recorded how it looks on my macbook: https://vimeo.com/343106191/cfd9b48fe6
It doesn't happen to any other window in the system, only Telegram... There must be something different in what Telegram Desktop is doing that causes that. Even if the bug is in Mac OS, other desktop applications are not having the same issue...

Same problem: Mojave 10.14.5, second monitor: Dell retina.
If move app back to laptop's screen - there is okay.

Durov, fix this annoying bug, besit!

Switching the window to another screen temporarily fixes the issue. You can even switch it back immediately. The flickering will be gone for a while.

Same issue. Any pending solutions, or is this more BS with Apple's CRAP Metal 2 drivers?

I have a similar issue. Tried to switch between different color theme, did not help.
The window on macbook's monitor is ok, flickering about once per second on external display

Same issue in 10.14.6
Telegram build: 1.8.8
Theme: Night mode

I'm using additional monitor

Guys its really annoying problem, please fix it ASAP!

Mac Book Pro Late 2013 retina, 1.8.15

Seems problem solved for me. I've installed Telegram from AppStore and its good for me.

I have latest Mac OS 10.15 with all updates installed and Telegram 1.8.15 (latest too) installed from App Store. And the problem is still here. Like before not every day but when happens => the only way to fix is to restart the App. I already have a hotkey on my Mac to restart it. :-)

Guys, come on already! Fix this flicker issue!

I saw the flicker before, but it became worse recently.
Does not reproduce deterministically, but inevitably starts flickering after a few attach/detach external monitor cycles. Flicker is slow like "trying to attract attention" notification.
1.8.8 on 10.15.1

I have the same issue. Is there any progress??

I would suggest you to try the beta version.

You know, I haven’t seen this in Catalina. Mind you I switched back to the
native MacOS version. See if that helps.

Thanks guys, but I've solved this by installing original macOS app. Still using it for Ubuntu there are no such effects.

I still see this issue on Catalina

@Aokromes Can I ask you to look after this issue?
Since Preston updated Qt to 5.12.5 back in November and released the first stable version a month ago, this problem should have completely disappeared. If there are no reports within 1-2 months, please close this issue.

i don't have macos to test :) @adimshev

You don't need to have this, just ask to keep an eye on it please. =)

Same here:

macOS 10.14.6 (Mojave)
MBP 13", 2018

@michaelaye What version of the Telegram Desktop do you have?

ah, yes that was dumb to leave out: 1.9.7.

latest version is 1.9.14 plz update before reporting bugs.

latest version on the macOS app store is 1.9.7. Plz update your distribution channels before scolding users for not updating.

@michaelaye App store is very slow on moderation :( the version stuck there for almost five days now. So I advise you to use the version from the official website.

also receiving this error on a MBP but I installed telegram straight from the telegram website

version 1.9.14

only does it on 2nd monitor, both of them, not the laptop display itself.

I am having the same problem.

macOS Catalina (10.15.3)
MacBook Pro 15-inch 2019

Telegram version 1.9.14

I am using an additional screen.

+1 same issue here

Would also like to add my +1 to this - I have had this for a long time but this morning it seems much much worse (headache inducing) -

I have 2 screens, and I have no flickering on any other apps. Thanks for the comments above that it doesn't do it on the 'primary' monitor.

I think all our +1s are getting us no where.

Doesn't look like telegram are even remotely interested in fixing this bug, or responding to us.
The bug has been outstanding almost 1 year now. No replies from any telegram dev.

Ahh! so, I didn't see that comment - I had assumed I had the most recent version because Telegram keeps telling me it updates internally: but the app store version (1.8.8) is not the most recent version - getting it from the site is version 2.0.1, and I have to say I think that the 2.0.1 might not exhibit these issues.

So the question really is, why is the app-store version one so old, and not getting the update?

I also noted today that Telegram Support Force bugs are not handled in github but on Trello according to this: https://tsf.telegram.org/manuals/bugs so not clear if this is the right forum for that (couldn't actually find the Trello board for that, but also stopped looking due to work). - if there is one, we should cross link this.

@jmons App store version is on 2.0.1 right now.

@jmons Maybe you have macOS version below 10.12?

Interesting - no 10.14.6! Was definitely getting updates though (can't now screenshot to evidence it though as deleted now).

Ok, so, I can confirm that its generally better on 2.0.1 but it does happen still when there is updates to the screen - so it can be stable, but if I have video or zoom conference then it can flicker, and if I am typing in it, then each key stroke can cause it to flicker.... But its also transitory in that it doesn't always do it so I can't reproduce on demand.

I can confirm the issue on a MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2018). It happens if I drag the window to a secondary screen via HDMI. Telegram Version 2.1.0

same issue, flickering when typing a message, also random flickering otherwise, other windows (Browser, Word, Outlook) not flickering.
Mac 2015 Retina 15"
OS 10.15.5 Catalina
Telegram App 2.1.13

Flickering occuring on 4K samsung monitor attached via HDMI
Mac working in Clamshell mode.

Same issue
Early 2013 MacBook Pro

Same issue on macbook pro 13" 2019

I can verify a solution from @predatorpc.

Seems problem solved for me. I've installed Telegram from AppStore and its good for me.

I uninstalled the version I had on my iMac (model 2020 on the latest version of Catalina) and reinstalled it using the Version from the AppStore. Now, everything runs fine. No flickering anymore... Neither on the built-in display, nor on an external display (which was the issue in my case).
